Belfast - Bristol - Glastonbury ~ Help :)

Hello all,

I'm a first-timer travelling from Belfast. I've booked my flights to Bristol for the Wednesday morning and I'm just wondering what's the best way to get to the festival from Bristol airport? My other issue is that I will need to get supplies along the way.

Should I go to the Bristol centre first or go straight from the airport?

Thanks!

Grab a cab from Bristol airport...by far the easiest and quickest option...generally somewhere in the region of 60 quid...if there's less than 4 of you there'll be plenty of other folk on the flight heading to glasto so you can share and it'll be about 15 quid each...head straight down the A38 instead of heading back into Bristol (the airport is a good bit closer to the festival site than Bristol is anyway, and the A38 is generally the quicker entry route)...A few miles down the A38 from the airport on the way to the festie, there's a petrol station with a supermarket attached...drink prices are good (they had a special on last year, 10 quid for a bottle of smirnoff, beer/cider/other spirits similarly good deals)...plenty of food supplies and a short pitstop that most cabbies won't have a problem with. We stop there every year (but we pick up a hire car in Bristol airport)....you can't miss the petrol station, it's right on the road just between Lower Langford and Winscombe I think...then take the A371 through Cheddar, Wells and Shepton Mallet (or if traffic is bad A39 through glasto town) and you're there!

121 bus, airport to Sandford,

http://www.121-bus.co.uk/#/timetable/4542856280

then pop into Thatchers Cider shop for supplies...

then the 126 bus, Sandford to Wells, (or if you don't want cider, go straight to Winscombe and change there.)

get more supplies in Wells at Lidl/Tesco (Lidl usually has festival specials on food/camping gear) or Tinknells across the road for the wellies you wont need or a dirt cheap tent/bag.

Then taxi to the festival from Wells - most of the local taxi guys have special stickers that take them down the backroads...

All great advice regarding taxis etc and sharing costs. BUT, I think if you get onto the liftshare part of this forum you'd be able to find a lift from Bristol to the festival no problem. There are literally thousands of cars going that way, dependent on the exact times you'd be arriving.

The nearest offie or supermarket to Temple Meads is quite a march away too. If you just want booze, then there's a wine warehouse type thing that's walkable from there, otherwise you might have to get the bus into town and back. Temple Meads isn't exactly a city centre train station sadly...

I'd say you are safest getting the bus from the airport into Temple meads then getting the train to Castle Cary + Shuttle bus to the site.

The A38 on the Wednesday morning can be V busy and so whilst you will be travelling more miles the coach/train option will avoid the traffic. Supplies is the only issue with this, but there are small supermarkets within 10 minutes walk of Temple Meads which should sort you out.

Good Luck

First post! Are there any direct buses from the airport to Glastonbury? I'll be heading over from Dublin on the wednesday morning and was planning on heading into Bristol for gargle and supplies etc and then getting one of the national express busses out to the site. Will these buses take long to get there from Bristol, I was thinking of getting one about 10am (I know it's traffic dependent but a rough guess would be great). Also what time do your off licenses open in the mornings, like would we be able to get drink at 9am?

If as you lads were saying a taxi is about £60ish this could be a great option only problem is will there be taxis on the Monday morning to get us back to the airport for our flight at 5? I can't wait to go, finaly persuaded a few friends to go this year!

Thanks

im going from belfast too. and i was worried about getting supplies etc, theres a bus from the airport to temple meads which is the train station in bristol, then we were gona try and find the nearest place from there to get stuff, then get the train to castle cary then theres a free bus from castle cary train station to the festival...this is wat i was thinking of doing, its only me and my boyfriend going, but if there was an easier way id certainly consider it as i dont fancy getting all those trains and busses etc carrying my carryout and all my other stuff....dreading the travelling bit tbh lol

ill keep an eye on this thread incase there are any better ways to get there...btw we havnt booked flights yet, wat flights hav you booked and wat times??
