driving jobs

anyone got any tips on how to go about getting a driving job in a car or small van? like courier or similar.

not too sure of any agency names (if any) and any google searches just take you to scam sites that want you to buy some book before you can apply.

it's all change at my office and i could do with getting away from this sort of environment. not wanting to do taxi driving or anything.

I wouldn't recommend a take away delivery job to be honest. Usually minimum wage with a few quid extra for petrol and you'd have to pay your own business car insurance.

Another problem with driving jobs is that they sometime don't pay you during driving time.

What about Asda? You know the home delivery service?

I used to have to be in the van by half seven, and it was busy for a couple of hours, then tailed off for a lot of the day til about 4 or 5, then it was manic. You also had to be prepared to do late jobs, and sometimes not getting home till after eight... the hours were difficult some of the time

I believe most courier jobs are very much to tight time deadlines these days and pretty stressful and maybe not the best get-out. I've got a pal who is a cabbie (he does days rather than nights) and it's a much better living than you might imagine as he gets very little hassle, a couple of run-offs in 5 years and he can take an hour or two off any time he fancies (and, as it's all cash based, he pays f*ck all by way of tax).

how do taxi jobs work though? are they not paid a salary and all cash made on a run goes straight to the company (minus any tips)?

Drivers for courier companies are virtually all owner driver self employed these days. They do a lot of drops in a day for a decreasing return with rising costs - its a lot of graft. Im lucky cos i work for a company that distributes nationwide so mosr of my time is spent ambling about with not so many drops in a day but lots of miles. Id think hard before jumping ship - you dont get many couriers that stick at it cos it really is graft for not a lot in return
