Original headliners

Just wanted to get other peoples opinion on this. Do you think that the three headliners that we have now are the first ones that melv had on the phone?

I don't think Muse or MCR are and they have been used as back ups. As much as muse are a headliner they haven't got any new material coming out (to my knowledge anyway) and have been at pretty much every other festival so its hardly original.

MCR, the album flopped and there was always going to be some hate - but they have been talked about alot already and will be alot more if released as a headliner. They just seem like a sub to me.

Can tell its ticket day tomorrow, loads of new members dismissing the only information anybody has.

Im 100% sure muse would not only have been first choice but the first band singed up. I said 2 years ago to friends that Muse would headline in 2011 (I said own tour 2009, Glasto 2010, Leeds 2011, V2012 and new album late 2012) as it just always seemed right and goes in line with what happened in their last album.

Album sales aren't indicative of festival success. Just because no-one cares enough to buy a new album doesn't mean old material won't be enough for them to pull a relatively okay and excited crowd. Blink 182 headlined on nostalgia, after all. Alot of Reading will associate them with their younger years, with their first musical memories and thus see them.

It is a set of strong headliners (if it turns out to be the rumoured bands), just MCR seem more sub material, if you said Muse Strokes MCR were going to play surely most people would think MCR subbing Muse or another headline band, but still it'll be a great fest and im sure MCR will perform well.. if they do headline

That's not really fair when MCR have released 4 and the Strokes have released 3, though is it? It's better to say 1/2 of MCR's albums have gone platinum and 2/3 of the Strokes have.

But if The Strokes and Muse are both there then I'll be extremely happy, and I'll just hope MCR are good too.

i would think the strokes would have been the 1st choice, and muse would have been highly touted by benn, but it is a little bit predictable if not safe and still top live band with enough good songs.

mcr is the risky one,the love or hate band, the not so sure is popular enough to headline,or good enough live to do the fest justice.

ide have loved to seen blur/rem/daft punk booked, but there all massive headliners who arent touring.

2 out of 3 being good aint bad,im sure nme and lock up will have atleast 1 good headliner, and the 2nd headliners will be good.

i do find the general line up is good enough most years. think about how much camping anywhere for 5 days might cost you,and how much it might cost to see the headliners alone nevermind all the other bands you see over the weekend.

still think its fairly good value for money.

Really really don't want to get another MCR argument started but it's soooo hard to resist. An album going Gold isn't really much of an achievement though is it. Beady Eye, All American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, Lostprophets and The View have had platinum selling albums. I still consider Danger Days a flop. If you don't want to go that far, then you have to at least agree that it isn't the kind of album success that propels a band into headline status.
