I guess if you dont count any of the clash's albums then yes I guess BAD were. But clearly the journalist is on crack.

It IS a mad proposition, but BAD were an awesome breath of fresh air, and doing (for the time) radical new stuff that produced some corking singles. Maybe if you believe that The Clash were one of a bunch of bands doing similar stuff and BAD were ground-breaking in what they introduced then they were more pioneering. Seems a pretty odd argument to try to make though and misses the point a bit...
