The "Im not going to R+L this year thread"

I got a tattoo years and years ago when I was 16 and the best advice I got from anybody ever was a tattooist who said, if you have any doubts about anything in life, then it's not worth pursuing. In other words, if there is something in front of you that you are anything less than 100% sure about, or you have the slightest reservation about it, don't pursue it and trust your instincts.

If you do something just for the sake of routine rather than because it's something you actually enjoy, the act of doing it becomes more like a chore than anything and you don't enjoy it. Granted somewhere like Leeds you find yourself doing things to pass the time, but then you can do that at home and save £200 or spend it on something else.

But make up your own mind, man. Wait for the line-up to be confirmed and see how you feel then.

The fact Oxegen have two of L+R's headliners booked, and they arn't even headlining really says something about the lineup.

Either they are getting really lazy with their bookings or they really are running out of options.

Muse would be the only headliner for me to warrant going but I imagine a lot of people like myself have already seen Muse many times in the past couple of years, so even then there isn't a massive pull.

Just realised that all the bands I want to see at Reading are playing Glastonbury/Bestival... on much better sound systems in nicer locations. Its the atmosphere that draws me to Reading. Bands 2nd. As long as there's one headliner I'd see I'm alright. £200 though.

That has got to be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read on these forums! If nobody did anything they had even the tiniest reservation about nothing would get done. Only the most foolhardy or stupidly ignorant person would get anything done with this sort of ethic!

I can only assume this is the sort of 'advice' the tattooist gives out after you've had the tattoo done :)

After 14 years, I'm bowing out. If the best bits of Friday and Saturday (Deftones, Jimmy Eat World, Seasick Steve, Janes Addiction) were combined I'd be tempted to get a day ticket, but obviously they're not, so that's it. It's a sad day.

I was truly looking forward to being surprised this year. I mean I know we had the headliners nailed on for a while (albeit not confirmed) so I wasn't too bothered about that - would have been a pleasant surprise if it was somebody different - but I was shocked at the undercard last night. It's entirely subjective, of course, what bands people like and don't like but I gather the general feel from people I've spoken to over the course of the last 12 or so hours is decidedly negative, with lots seemingly defecting to smaller festivals, Download and Bestival.

Dark days for Festival Republic.

Poor lineup for me.

Even those that like it surely have to admit some of the bands are a little too high?

Those still saying it will definately sell out were the same people saying it'll sell out in an hour.

Well it didn't, and judging by the fact pretty much every agent has tickets left I think there are still a lot left to sell.

Wouldn't suprise me if Leeds didn't sell out this year, the demand for it the past two years has certainly been on the decline. Didn't sell the Sunday day tickets last year and you couldn't give them away on ebay even though it was "sold out"

As I've said in another thread, I can't justify spending that ammount of money.

The Offspring, Deftones, MCR, Rise Against, Jimmy Eat World, New Found Glory and The Streets are all acts I like, but I've seen them all before several times.

The only ones on there I like and haven't seen are Madness and Jane's Addiction and I'm not about to spend 200 quid just to see those bands.

I'm disappointed it's come to this, but it's been building for a while, had I not bought a ticket in 09 before seeing the line-up I probably wouldnt have gone. Faith No More and AFI saved the line-up for me that year, but I just can't see any redemption coming, even if the lock-up ends up being

amazing I can't see it beating last year's NOFX/Bad Religion combo.

Sad times, the sooner this NME menace stops bigging up debut albums to the point half the line-up are virtual unknowns the better.

Download, Soni and an August bank holiday trip to Amsterdam for the win!

Shit bands aside - and this question probably deserves a thread in itself - but how many people do you think on here are going JUST because it's routine, because it's something they do as a tradition, rather than because they like the bands and cling to hope that they will find something to do?
