John Grant with Midlake

Saw John Grant at the Sage last night. A beautiful and honest performance. He said on stage that next time he tours he hopes Midlake will be with him. Afterwards I spoke with him and asked if he is doing a solo show or with Midlake at Glastonbury and he said that he hoped to have Midlake with him. Given that both are a EOTR it appears likely that they intend to perform together (well at least in John's mind!)

Whilst I would be thrilled if this did happen, I wouldn't count your chickens...

I saw Midlake with JG supporting in November in Oxford. JG was 'solo' except for keyboard support from Midlake Keys man, Evan Jacob. It was fabulous, but the band were conspicuous by their absence. JG was also even more fabulous at Latitude last year with a non-Midlake backing band.

Personally I almost always enjoy a full band sound over a stripped down version (note: Ben Folds/Five) and JG is no exception. So I dearly hope that he either brings a band to EoTR or that the Denton boys step up to the plate for a live rendition of as much of Queen of Denmark as the generous EoTR set-lengths will allow.

Nah, I'm with Mr Pop here (kind of), both pretty solid albums in my opinion, but the standout tracks on Van Occupanther and head and shoulders above anything on CoO. Those tracks alone just raise it up.

Still, thoroughly looking forward to Midlake. Saw them at The Tabernacle in Notting Hill last year, just after CoO came out and they were outstanding. In fact, the CoO tracks sounded considerably better in that live setting.
