NME Headliner

The album didn't flop really, it still went Gold and entered at number 3 and that was behind the darlings of the critics Jessie J and Adele who are both much more obvious. I think they will do the business and can't wait to see them even if they're not Oasis.

It did flop. Every single Oasis album had got to number 1. Adele's album had been out for 5 weeks. If it can't beat that then in my eyes it flopped..

I'm not saying it was shit - I actually really like it. It's a breath of fresh air compared with the past couple of Oasis albums. I just think it's silly when people deny that it didn't get half the response that Liam was expecting/hoping for.

Still, by no stretch of the imagination are the Streets last ever gig (probably) and Jane's addiction's first gig on these shores since the NIN/JA tour in '09, "smaller" bands than Pendulum (who seem to have done every festival in existance in the last 2 years) and Klaxons (who's second album didn't exactly set the world on fire)

Also, based on hype alone, I would believe Beardy eye to be much more of a draw than LCD soundsystem.

It's worth mentioning that last year, as with The Streets this year, was LCD's final UK festival appearances.

Also we definitely won't be getting anymore NME headliners, when the line-up was released in 09 the poster looked like this..

.. with no-one on the NME assigned days or headline slots on the poster as two of the headliners, Lostprophets and FNM, were yet to be announced. This year the NME headliners are clearly highlighted for each day on the poster.

I think judging beady eyes success on the back of oasis is silly. You look through history and its very Rare for the singer or guitarist in a big band to get the same success with a new band. Charting at 3 is very solid for a guitar band in todays climate. There are several bands on the main stage from positions 3 down who would bite your hand off for that. Also comparing it with adeles album sales is silly as that would make pretty much every new album release by a big band in the last couple of months a flop.

All three of those (Beady Eye, Jane's Addiction and The Streets) are legit headliners, they won't play anywhere lower in the tent. I'm still not sure what's going on with The Streets and 2manydjs, they both have their logo and there's a weird positioning on the poster. If it does stay like that then there's no way The Streets would get pushed down to third in the tent.

But I wouldn't necessarily expect The Strokes to get to no.1, they've never had an album higher than 4th in the UK. Liam Gallagher, on the other hand, has never had an album that didn't get to no.1. So if he released an album that's not got to no.1, regardless of the competition, I'd say that it flopped. I guess it's all subjective.

Probably, but wouldn't you in his shoes? I guess people weren't as keen on shelling out an Oasis album without Noel as he hoped but I think a lot of those people will still wander over to the tent to to see what they sound like (especially up against MCR).
