On Ash's facebook they have confirmed they are doing some festivals this year. Pair that with the fact they have a good relationship with R+L I think they are pretty much a cert. Discuss

don't know much about them, never really listened, by why would they be under 'special guests' if their probably not exclusive anywhere else? mistake me if i'm wrong.

I would say they're anything but a cert. They played last year and I can't see them playing a low NME slot...

That's what I thought, but since it's special guests that may be a reason for it. They could also slot in lower down on the mainstage on one of the days. A lot of bands play R+L twice or more in a row, and I can definitely see them getting booked considering they're doing fests.

I love Ash but there stock has fallen quite heavily since they headlined in 2007.

They're playing Rock AM Ring and Pinkpop, was hoping they'd be playing Download too, as its the same time.

Although I'd love for them to play I very much doubt they will. I'm pretty sure I read they're only doing small festivals in this country this year.

Would love to see them though.. But I doubt they will play Leeds. 4th(?) down on the NME stage seems a bit too low for them.

Seeing them with one of the biggest main stage crowds in 2004 seems a very long time ago when people start talking about Ash playing low down on then nme

Would love to see em again, last time was supporting RHCP back in 04! Missed them last year due to the Arcade fire clash. Would a slot that far down do their set any justice however? Seeing as they have a rich back catalogue.

The special guest announcement won't be made for a long time given that that's the reason they're special guests. I don't think they're playing, unfortunately...

^ sorry, i can't see ash ever playing 4th on the main stage ever again. their a-z thing has produced some great songs but not generated a lot of publicity. the only slot i can see them doing is headlining fr (which they did last year, so not this year) or 1st/2nd/3rd NME stage. but not as low as that special guest slot.

I think ash are a hard band to place. IN terms of the venues they play they would be pretty low on the main stage. However they are a band who fit perfectly with the reading/leeds genre and I would still expect if you sampled the whole festival crowd there would be a higher proportion of people who could name an ash song than a rise against one. So I think they could still pull of 5th headliners. They would probably sub the nme tent as afi did a couple of years ago.

Bands like Ash are what the festival needs, acts who may not be as popular with the younger crowd anymore but who can still put on a strong set full of hits that people would enjoy.
