Recommend me a Mobile Phone

thats plainly incorrect, but we have been around this argument before. we will have to agree to disagree.

hows it incorrect? .... Just because the fad is still on the way up doesn't mean it's not a passing fad.

It is and will be a passing fad, because as the power of mobile devices increases along with the speed and accessibility of 'net access, there won't be the need to have offline or cut-down versions of fully featured websites.

I've been looking at new phones and am quite tempted by the HTC 8X, looks very good but then I seen the leaked BlackBerry 10 phones photos and the new operating system is supposed to be really good so a bit confused as what to do now :mda:

I knew it would get leaked  they gave my brothers office a prototype version encased in plastic box so you can't see the design.

I was not bothered about an upgrade but I managed to keep my plan at 20 a month for 600 minutes and unlimited texts with internet, and I got a Nokia Lumia 800 and a free Xbox 360. It is a windows phone with a crap internal battery, and I am not sold on the touch screen. I am a little clumsy with my right side st the moment and the phone is not easy to work with. No memory card means all music has to be put on through the pc and you can't drag and drop. I like I can work on my Office files nut all in all I miss my Sony Elm. This has a micro sim so I need to get an adapter for my festival phone. I still use my Elm for music at work as the Lumia feels like a hard on in my pocket. Still a good tariff and an Xbox slim.

  • 3 weeks later...

I've just bought myself a Nexus 7 ... I've gotta say I'm very impressed with the speed of it compared to the speed of my old Android phone.

Anyway .... I was hoping that people might recommend me some crackin' apps to use with it? What do you suggest?

No to 0870.

ESPN Goals - Free highlights on premiership games.

LinkedIn if you use it.

Nice!!! I am tempted by the Nexus 10 still :D but it sold by the time I got home........ Spotify (Needs premium though), Chrome, Podax, TuneIn Radio. ANGRY BIRDS!!!...Bus Checker but I guess thats more of a phone thing..I'll stop there, as I only have a phone. (The Guadian news app is fairly good, and Sky Sports News Centre and Score Centre but I know you hate Murdoch :P)...........Twitter, Efests News App ;):P

Angry Birds is so addictive. At the moment I am hooked on one called Chickens can't fly.

Fair play with the nexus 7 purchase, you'll find yourself spoiled now, with every other tablet seeming like a stuttering slowcoach.

My best recommendations for android are:

Splashtop (the BEST remote desktop tool, bar none)

MX player (best media player)

OI file manager (most phones come with a rebadged version of this installed, great file manager)

Games wise, I've enjoyed

Great little war game

Indestructable

World of goo

Pretty much any game you throw at a nexus 7 will be smooth as hell, that thing is a beast :) Shame the nexus 10 isn't as powerful (with it's lovely screen)

Cut The Rope is a fun little physics based game. Not sure if you can get it on Android, but an app called 'sleep cycle' is an amazing alarm clock that monitors your sleep and wakes you up when you are in your lightest phase of sleep. I have found it makes me a lot less miserable in the morning. :)

Google music is freakin awesome. Its basically a cloud based storage of your entire home library (up to 20,000 tracks IIRC) it takes a while to upload your library, but you basically have mobile access to your library (or even just selected playlists). Its free (although I suspect somewhere down the line google might decide to charge for it.)

Flipboard is a great newsreader/rss reader. It basically makes a magazine for you every day of the things you are interested in.

iplayer - obviously

National Rail / The trainline are great apps, if you use trains fairly often.

Songkick is a great app that scans your music library, and allows you to track your favourite artists, it then notifies you when gigs are announced. Its bulletproof imho. I havent missed a tour going on sale since I started using it.

as an aside. if someone offered me £500 and a free iphone 5, I wouldnt go back to iphones. my galaxy S3 is the best phone I have ever owned.

I saw it could do that ... but as I've got a set-up already where I can do that from a phone or laptop and with as many tracks as I like and forever-free, it's no biggie for me.

have been meaning to check that out.

is there an iPlayer specific app then? I found BBC News (and think it's crap for anything but headline news).

got, but thanks.

lol - I'm sure you said something equally as much "I'm never changing" about your iPhone when you got it....?

iPhone has lost the race already .... the people I know with iPhones are starting to feel they're missing out on something by not having a Android phone.

yes there is a specific iplayer app. and songkick and flipboard are no brainers on the "must have" apps list.
