This would've been my 5th year, and I just can't see how the ticket prices are so expensive, and Melvin Benn saying that he didn't book much better bands because they 'weren't exclusive' and My Chemical Romance aren't even that!

To be fair tho (& I was lucky enough to win tickets for the Big Weekend at Swindon in 2009) all the acts only get 30-40mins and the headliners only get around 50mins (and that also applied to Prodigy at Big Weekend in 2009) and the curfew time was 9.30pm when everything had to end by & am pretty sure that curfew time still exists & had been like that at all of their Big Weekend events

I thought the 'In New Music We Trust' was all about....ya know....new music. Not bands that have been around in the mainstream for 10 years and are on their 4th hit album.

Anyways...

Good lineup for R1 weekend, but at the end of the day its still the R1 weekend.

Which means the crowd is generally going to be poor in comparison...the bands play smaller sets.....they finish early for a curfew....you are lucky to get a ticket for one day, let alone both days.

R1 pulled them out of the bag to be fair. Its quite irrelivent to r+l though - only 20 k tickets (if its the same as previous) of which a lot will be locals in carlisle.

The average r+l's goer doesnt really have the opportnity to go to this, so if they wanna see mcr/the strokes go see them at r+l.

Tell you what though V have a really good booking in Eminem, looks like he isn't playing anywhere else at all

I know you'd defend reading if mika headlined it but come on its a joke. For free i can see 2 of the reading headliners and if i got to most other major festivals ill see atleast one of them. Its not value for money anymore at all, could understand if one is but the lineup is weak all the way down and the headliners are elsewhere. What is its selling point apart from a free Apocalypse sneak preview on sunday night?

when big weekend was in maidstone people i know were able to get in just by bribing the stewards for as low as £20 each maybe thats worth a thought, but f**k travelling all the way to carslile and failing.
