Radio 1's Big Weekend is not a proper festival.

I personally think that paying money to see the likes of the strokes is definitely worth it. If people are angry about the fact that other festivals have the same bands then just know that the atmosphere at Reading never fails to be amazing.

I think it's important to remember that the big weekend needs to cater for lots of different tastes of music because it's the BBC so having The Strokes headlining the second stage whilst Gaga headlines the main however wrong it sounds kind of makes sense

If you've ever been the smaller stages which have indie bands on never get much audience. Think the most depressing thing Ive seen was Faithless DJing had about 5 people yet Alicia Keys (talented granted) had all the fest to herself.

I managed to see Doves on the front row after walking in with 5 minutes before they started and they had a half empty tent. Vampire Weekend also had about a quarter of the crowd for Pendulum and Florence got main stage whilst Faithless were on the smaller stage.

It isnt a proper festival, but it's great to see masses of good bands up close and personal cos you're average punter is watching JLS, Jason Derulo or some other terrible act.

As the festival travels it will not always be near you, it will cost me more to get from carlisle than it will for me to get to reading. Also the tickets are random so you are not always going to be able to get a ticket, for every other festival you can. It is only a 1 day event. So for most it doesn't matter that the strokes are headlining second and mcr are subbing Gaga as they won't have even been going anyway. I can't imagine that someone would get a ticket for it and then sell there leeds/reading ticket.

I'm not complaining about the Leeds/ Reading line up because I like all the headliners. However it makes the line up look pretty poor when 2 of the headliners are playing a free event and not even headlining!

Which one? I didn't realise we were being festival specific. If we're talking R&L then yeah Muse and probably The Strokes are of more interest, but when it comes to Radio One and the world in general I'd still say Lady Gaga is bigger.

Yeah I did kinda confuse myself there.. I dunno. I know GaGa has a MASSIVE fanbase, who're very passionate about her music, but she doesn't have the repertoire behind her that Muse & The Strokes do, even in the public eye.

Last.fm figures are completely pointless and so are record sales due to the fact they haven't been around the same length and have released a different number of records. To the public Lady Gaga is probably the biggest recording artist right now. And why not use youtube hits to represent listens, because Lady gaga wins hands down.
