Friday & Saturday Lock Up Stages

A problem with Lockup bands is that they are all bands who feature on Mike Davies' Radio 1 show. Fair enough he knows his punk etc. and gets some great acts but need some upcoming hardcore/metal/rock acts as well. Daniel P Carter who also has a brilliant show on Radio1 should combine with Mike D and tell him some good upcoming ROCK/METAL bands to feature on Lockup for R/L as well as the punk acts which already feature.

If this happened, we would get acts such as Funeral for a Friend, A Day to Remember (might be a bit big now) on there. Plus most punk bands are often American and we should do more to promote British acts too!!

Kinda agree and disagree with this.

While it would be nice to have a bit of a mix, the lock up is pretty much the only punk stage anywhere, at any festival, in the UK. Last year it was rammed, especially Friday night as people gave up on Guns and went to watch Alkaline Trio instead. There's absolutely nothing wrong with its popularity and Mike D does a sterling job, bringing consistantly awesome bands each year.

That being said, if it started getting diluted with metal bands I'd be royally pissed off. There are TWO massive festivals in the UK dedicated purely to hard rock and metal - I don't see a punk stage at those festivals.

IMO punk is at the beginning of another drought period. It needs all the momentum/popularity it can get.

They just need more rock/metal/punk/alternative on the line-up in general... too much lighter/indie stuff all over the place. NME and FR stages are full of it, except a handful of bands, and there's a fair amount on the main stage usually too. Last year they did a great job of bringing back more rock, it's a real shame they've not done it again in 2011.

I'd be happy to see the Lock-Up kept as a punk stage IF they get more rock/metal elsewhere on the line-up.

i would like to see more metal/ post hardcore post whatever bands on the lineup too

i was thinking splitting the lock up to one day punk one day for metal/rock but after reading that its the only punk stage anywere i'd rather keep it as it is :/

The Lockup has had a few rock/metal acts on it (Coheed and Cumbria in 2004 were... memorable) but it has always been 99% filled with punk acts as long as I can remember (back to the concrete jungle days B) ) and long shall it be that way!
