Wireless Festival 2011

Hey, just wondering if anyone who has been to Wireless festival before could inform me if they have several stages or just one stage. I'm thinking of going on the Sunday and was wondering if the acts (Pulp, TV On The Radio, Grace Jones, Horrors) would clash. Sorry for the predictable 'clashes' question, but I've never been to Wireless before and not sure if I want to if some of the main acts cash.

I went last year to Friendly Fires & Jay-Z. Got 2 cheap tickets off eBay. Gf was really unimpressed with the site, I thought it was ok, probably as I'd just got back from Glastonbury. Hyde Park had been ruined by the previous 2 days of the fest & Hard Rock Calling. The crowd don't really get involved with the music as most are there to see the headliners.

Worth a day out but it gets extremely busy after the last act finishes. If you need to use national rail, you'll have to leave early to allow you to get on a tube & make your connection.

I might go for Chase & Status, Nero & Chems if I can spy a cheap ticket on eBay again.

One last thing, the dust gets everywhere! I'm not kidding. I've spent days rolling around in the mud at Reading & came out worse off after 6 hours at Wireless. It's like a really fine dirt/soil & clings to everything. Was the worst thing about the festival. That & Mr. Hudson.

Sort of, it's more of your well off chav type. Most of the crowd were there to see Jay Z, Professor Green & Chase & Status so I imagine they will be put off by the Pulp, Grace Jones line up.

Never been to V but the sort of people I know that go there would be at home at Wireless.

It's not a bad atmosphere (apart from the unrelentless bottle throwing at a girl who wouldn't get her baps out during Lily Allen) but it's not like Glasto/Bestival where you can stumble up to anyone & have a conversation.

Sounds delightful. I'm going for the Saturday as an excuse for a weekend in London

Saw Chems with the current light show when they debuted it and it was pretty good, it'll be interesting to see Battles without Tyondai Braxten, I'm intrigued to see what Janelle Monae is like live, I like The Streets (but probably not the songs they'll play), want to see Aphex Twin, really like Digitalism and they're good live, checked out Jay Electronica and was very impressed and I think Nero could be OK too

8 bands I want to see for £50, pretty decent value really

Oh, another silly question: is Hyde park totally sealed off if you don't have a ticket? Some friends of mine are thinking of seeing Arcade Fire (performing there Thursday immediately before the festival) and I'm wondering if there's anywhere I can chill whilst they see them play (without paying for a ticket of course!). Or can I just jump the fence?! :P

I haven't been to Wireless but I've been to Hard Rock Calling and I think it's the same place. I'm not sure you realise the size of Hyde Park if you think it'd be completely shut off, the festival site covers about 10% of it.

They have a big fence around the outside of the arena so you wouldn't be able to see Arcade Fire but it's possible you'd be able to here them as the main stage isn't right at the back

If you look here

The arena is like bottom right. In fact, if you go to satellite you can see it. Fairly sure that map is from Hard Rock Calling and the Arena doesn't go up quite as high at Wireless, just based on the Wireless map in this thread

Thanks for your reply edfirth. That's very helpful :) I confess I've only been to Hyde Park twice, and on those occasions I wasn't really paying much attention to it. Remarkable luck that the google satellite photo was taken during Hard Rock Calling (and very handy of them to put a banner with the name on, facing upwards so that we would know!). Gives a very good idea of the scale of the thing.
