Viagogo is the official ticket exchange?

Does anyone else find it alarming that the official Reading and Leeds festival website advertises and encourages the use of the ticket reselling site Viagogo, they're nothing more than glorified touts and although the site is legal I would have thought festival republic would be against the practice.

Festival republic couldn't give a f**k about you or how much you are paying, as long as their tickets sell out.

This whole "being against touts" thing is absolute rubbish, all talk and no go.

It's useful for people who don't want to go any more/ want to swap reading and leeds ticket/ need the money. It's much safer than ebay etc. and people will buy touted tickets.

They not only make money from secondary sales, but expect that they will have a deal where the secondary reseller gets a good bunch of tickets kept back for them. This way the secondary reseller makes even more money as they can sell them on their own at silly prices and take all the money. They put this forward as good for customers offering more choice for those that missed out.

Glastonbury obviously has the might and ethics to stop it for them; however I believe bands in other countries have been pretty much crippled by the big music monopolies when they have tried to make trouble in this sort of area.

Oh and remember it's not just pure ticket sales. For other festivals at least, we've seen large numbers of tickets being given away free on poor/slow years, in an effort to ensure both that it appears popular and that merchandising, food and drink sales go well.
