The Nal
If you absolutely insist on this pseudo-religious basis, then no. They've taken one step in banning extremism. Islamic people, including the religious ones, do not necessarily wear the Burqa.
eFestivals
Islamic people, including the religious ones, do not necessarily wear the Burqa. And what France has banned is not necessarily the burqa. As I said, it would help if you knew what you were talking about.

worm
They've taken one step in banning the most extreme part of Islam. But its still part of Islam, or a strand of it.
eFestivals
Yes it is. You can still wear headscarves. I'd imagine that you can still wear veils as well, but that you'd have to remove them if you were asked to by the police etc...... winging it yet again. You couldn't make it clearer that you don't have a f**king clue what you're on about. Wing nut.

eFestivals
A link that clearly shows the difference between the Burqa and the Hajib. A link that cleary states that it's the Burqa and not the Hajib that's been banned. And I'm the one winging and talking ignorant shit? I wonder where it says just the burka is banned in that text? Here's that text.... The niqab is a veil for the face that leaves the area around the eyes clear. However, it may be worn with a separate eye veil. It is worn with an accompanying headscarf. The burka is the most concealing of all Islamic veils. It covers the entire face and body, leaving just a mesh screen to see through. There have been attempts to ban both the niqab and burka in some European countries. And it's very unlike the BBC to get things wrong too, as they must have done again in this piece.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-13038095 Yes, you're winging it and talking ignorant shit. All full-face Islamic veils are bnned under this French law. Wing nut.

eFestivals
No Neil. What has been sussed is that you didn't have a clue and thought that all Muslims veils were banned, when in fact they aren't. But, as proven by your own link, only the full covering of the body has been banned, which means the Burqa, oh and how could I forget the Niqab which is part of the Burqa. Idiot! I think you'll find it's rare for "veils" to refer to anything but a covering of the face, you odious little turd. And the niqab is something different to the burka, as that link I gave clearly demonstrated. You've been sussed talking endless shit, and even now with clear evidence you're trying to use bluster to hide your wrong. It's the online equivalent of a kid sticking their fingers in their ears and going "nah nah nah I'm not listening. Grow up. Admit your error, and move on. FFS. eFestivals
I'm afraid that repeating yourself won't change the facts Neil. The Niqab is an integral part of the Burqa, regardless of what you think some daft second hand link from the BBC underwriters demonstrate. And veils refer to covering. The entire problem is in the Burqa covering the whole of the female body because they are believed to have less public rights. Very true. The fact I said "veil" to refer to both the burka and niqab, two different things hence the two different words. And even if they were the same thing - which they're not - then they're known by niqab and not burka as a catch-all, because niqab wearers are a far larger grouping. I know how the French law is worded. I've very deliberately said 'veils' because what is banned is clothing with face veils, to specifically target burka and niqab wearers, because of the fact that they cover the face. But all of this is an aside, caused by you not knowing what you're talking about. Again. Admit it, and move on, for f**ks sake. You talking know-nothing shite isn't what this thread is about. worm
This is a very complex issue and should be perfect subject matter for debate on here. It has nothing to do with women's rights per se, but a whole multitude of issues relating to Muslim minorities in europe. The French government don't really give a damn whether it is considered sexist and oppressive against women, but it relates to issues regarding security, fear and integration (and many more besides). There was that Islamic Mufti in France a couple of years ago who said that 'all unveiled women were asking to be raped' ... I mean, what can you say about that?! Some of this shit is just scary. Anyway, this has been on the cards for years ... I'm surprised its taken this long. My opinions? Not that anyone cares but I think the idea that a religion forces you to wear a burqa is no better than the west forcing you not to wear one. Liberté my arse.
