Christ another thread about this. I'm not going to TITP so I really don't give a f**k. The Strokes could be cleaning the toilets there for all I care. They're headlining Reading and I'd much rather see them instead of shitty Coldplay and the crappy Arctic Monkeys, that's all I care about.

Strokes should headline though they're one of the biggest bands in the world, do them a favour and give them the slot they deserve. Would you really want to hear anything after they finish otherwise you end up with another Arctic Monkeys comedown situation like in 09? Pulp should also be headlining for this reason but that's another issue not for this thread/

I think its more of the idea of reading organiseras/attendees creaming themselfs because as a rule thye have exclusive headliners. When they realise that reading is loosing out on that aspect its actully quite funny.

as ive said before reading is on a identity crisis. its not pop like v, it hasnt the mix of glasto, is hasnt the scottish exclusive like t, it hasnt the heavier stuff like download/sonisphere.

troubling times for reading/leeds of course it will be scoffed at on this forum.

I'm not bothered much, sure it's a bit WTF but TITP seems to be getting as huge as Glasto and if Strokes were subbing at Glastonbury it wouldn't really be a huge surprise. It's a shame for Melvin who seems to have had his 'staggering' line-up shot down by other festivals this year.

I reckon they're saving money to spend on better bands next year. Isn't 2012 meant to be an anniversary year for Reading or something?

Let's be honest, Reading isn't that great this year but there are still more than enough bands I am going to enjoy seeing (albeit most of these bands are playing far too high in the lineup than they should). But in my opinion none of the major festivals are THAT great this year.

Glasto- poor headliners, undercard seems to be a mixture of all the other festivals.

T in the Park- got three great headliners and three great subs (presuming Strokes are one), but one of their headliners seem to be playing everywhere this year (Foos) and the rest of the undercard is pretty sub-standard in my opinion.

V- Awful lineup, a few decent bands but mainly commercial poppy stuff, and Plan B are subbing :O

Also quite a lot of the major bands playing at festivals this year (Arctics, Blink etc) have played Reading quite recently, so obviously we're not gonna get them to play, while Foos are pretty much nailed on to play Reading next year.

I just think there aren't that many great bands on offer for festivals this year, and as a result I think Reading have done quite well:

MUSE- fantastic.

Strokes- deserved headliner, so I don't care they're subbing T.

Pulp- playing everywhere but no doubt a great booking. Shows we're not missing out either.

MCR- meh, but that's what everyone was saying about Arcade Fire last year. Will probably still draw a big crowd, as will 30STM.

Elbow- brilliant live band, only other festival they're playing is Glasto.

Plus, we've got Madness,!!!

Obviously that's only my opinion, and people will probably disagree with me, but I just don't think the festival lineups on a whole are that great this year.

In order of lineups this year -

1. sonisphere - although nearly all the bands i like ive seen before, many at reading last year

2. t in the park - although im not keen on the poppier bands, and it is miles away from where i live

3. reading/leeds

4. glastonbury - miles away from where i live, and a weak pyramid stage.

5. v - terrible

bestival looks good, but is also miles away from me.
