How'd you manage that?

I've just had an LPG conversion done (it cost just over £1k). It'll pay for itself by the cheaper fuel in less than a year, plus the vehicle is now worth around £1k more than it was, so the payout on getting it fitted is neutral really.

I'll be paying around that price for every fill-up from now on. :D

Its uneconomical to convert a diesel engine to lpg, so its a no go for me, but if I had a petrol car I would do it in a heartbeat.

That's not quite true - it depends on what mileage you do.

But the savings from a diesel conversion are less, because it runs on a mix of diesel and LPG rather than pure LPG as a petrol engine does.

how do you go about converting like? sounds amazing!

You need to get it done by a registered installer, else soon-ish no insurance company will insure the vehicle. But basically it's an extra fuel tank and another fuel delivery system.

The vehicle will still run on petrol if you want to (you can switch between them), so while there's not a huge number of LPG filling stations you're not stuffed if you can't find one.

Have a read of some of the stuff here:-

yup yup, i work for Co-op Insurance and unless you've had it done by a registered company off our list, we won't touch your car

insurance companies are changing things. There's now a central database, that approved installers (I guess ones that are members of the 'LPGA' thing) can update themselves with the vehicle numbers of installations they do. At some point in the future, if you're not on that database then you won't get insured.

My own insurance company (AXA) told me this today when I informed them of the conversion (and I checked with my installer that my details will go on that database). Currently tho they only want a photocopy of the conversion certificate the installer gave me.
