If you were God

I was pondering this the other day, and I thought I'd quite like to get rid of death. It sounds simple, but there would be complications.

For a start, the food chain would have to go. So we'd all have to exist using an alternative energy source. Maybe solar power?

But then, if we still had reproduction, we'd run out of room, with all us animals and humans given free rein to reproduce. So we might have to get rid of reproduction. Unless we had an exponentially expanding universe that expanded eternally.

So then I thought, maybe make us pure consciousness, then that would solve most of the other problems.

But think what a change that would make. No sensory pleasures, no sex,no physical gratification of any description. And without reproduction, maybe no familial affection. Maybe no emotions at all. In fact, probably not.

What kind of life is that?

So maybe God had the right idea after all, sticking death into the equation. At least it forces you to appreciate things.

What would you change?

I rather like that idea. If we existed in mind only, but with a mind that was really well developed, could we not still sense/imagine all the pleasures that at present we get from the physical.

Maybe a few people into meditation could answer that.

It was meant to be silly and serious. I dont want to determine things for anyone else but believe my own thoughts and actions and (within cultural limitations admittedly) beliefs to be self determined. In that context im god in my world.

It depends on when you asked me.

My only fear is death. I actually suffer from death anxiety, which isn't pleasant, that gives me claustraphobia and sleep panic. However, I wouldn't want to rid the world of it because I believe that meaning would cease to be. We are only aware because our body needs to be aware of danger, and things are only meaningful because they are temporary and unique.

How could anything possibly be meaningful if we were indestructable? I think that it's a mark of how hedonistic we have become to think of life in such a nihilistic context.
