So during last nights Europa Cup final, a friend and I got into a little argument. I said I reckon the top 6 would prefer the FA Cup over the Europa cup and the rest would be split but the Europa may be held slightly higher by them. Either way I think English clubs think less of it than the rest of Europe.

So where are your team and which would you prefer to win? What do you think about it?

Well no one seems to give a shit about the Europa League but If you've never seen it, It must be a great feeling seeing your team win a European trophy even if it is a completely devalued one. Does anyone really give a shit about the FA Cup either nowadays? For some teams a Eruopean run is something that doesn't come around too often, like Fulham last year. I'd imagine a decent FA Cup run would be alot easier to come by.

english attitudes sicken me! it won't be long before this seasons scenario is the norm. fa cup final a side show and the last day of the premier league being the showpiece. i know the leagues the most important thing, but cups are an amazing thing. and a cup where you compete with some pretty good teams from around europe ranks way higher than a national cup. be it scottish or english.

I used to think quite a bit of the 'uefa cup' back not so long ago. I can remember when liverpool won it with gary mcallistair playing (i think). I dont like liverpool but that was one of the few occasions I was genuinely happy that they won.

The significance of these two cups is that no one really cares unless there team is doing well in it. As a bristol city fan I'd happily see the players rested for e.g. A fa cup 3rd round replay on a weekday so they are fit for the weekend

Why do you think that? Remember the FA Cup isn't just for the big boys, there's 100's (1000's?) of teams that take part, and it's quite important to many of them. I stop paying attention normally when it gets to the quarter-finals.

If anything, get rid of the League Cup. But having a cup competition that any team in the country can take part in is awesome IMO.

simple make the champions league just for the winner of the league, easier than the uefa cup in most years. take liverpool playing brugge in final.

uefa(europa) cup for 2nd,3rd,4th like it used to be for, it used to be the most difficult european trophy to win and usually had the best teams aswel.

cup winners cup for fa cup winners, easiest to win as you dont play anyone decent until the semis. take man utd win in 90/91

pesci munkas

wrexham

monpellier

legi warsaw

and then the one hard game barca in the final

I could probably tell you who won the FA Cup between about 1976 and and 1998 ish and name most of the goalscorers.

Since then I could guess but wouldn't really be sure - its become a bit shit and I can't really put my finger on why.

It was always a massive event back in the 80s - especially when it took over both main channels for the day (of course no-one ever watched the ITV coverage though - did they?) and the excitement built and built.

Maybe I'm just getting old or maybe its the blanket TV coverage of all games , I don't know. Its lost its lustre and I can't see it ever getting it back again.

Its still better than the Europa Cup but thats not saying a great deal really.

FA Cup for me, although I dont think any of the really big clubs particularly care about others.

As for why it's lost it's lustre, basically it's money in my opinion.

More games on TV, so it's not a special event any more.

Expansion of the Champions League & UEFA Cup, so that winning the cup is less important to get into Europe, and also big teams regularly play more cup games and have more trophies to play for during Jan/Feb when otherwise they might be focusing on the cup.

When the big teams lose interest, it devalues the whole competition.

Why don't you agree with that... Its a cracking idea...

The idea of a none league side getting the chance of playing a team like Real Madrid is the fairy tale story football should have...

Football really has lost its way... Its a horrible sport...
