Bearded Theory - Brilliant! but what's next?

So, first Bearded Theory done last weekend - managed to drag 5 buddies along too - and we all loved it. Exactly what we wanted and hoped it would be. Early bird tickets already in the bag for next year and (something like) 364 days until we can do it all again! Massive pat on the back and thanks for the organisers - you made me and my lot very happy indeed.

So, now, some help needed, if anyone can spread the knowledge....Can anyone recommend other festivals with a similar sort of feel / size / ethos / spend to fill the gap until next May?

We used to be Big Chill regulars but have decided to leave that well alone (festival Republic - no ta), the occasional endorse-it under our belts and bits and pieces of Wychwood and Sunrise over the years - don't really want to head too much furhter north than midlands as based in Bristol but already got Beatherder on radar as it looks like it could be another beauty. (love the 'bring you own booze' ones - don't like the greedy ones)

all thoughts welcomed, please, share the knowledge!

cheers Karl - someone I was chatting to at Bearded said the same thing....

Perhaps sometimes you gotta be prepared to travel a little bit further for the right one... (don't mind heading there, it's heading back that gets painful!)

Beat-Herder is a wonderful festival and you will love it! See you there!!!

One you should try is the Alchemy festival the main one in September is top and there are lil ones in June and August..

Solfest is a cracking festie and can't be beat on location, if you make the trip up go a day early if you can and stay on the coast [campsite at allonby] stunning deserted beach, cracking pubs, mountains all around...

Also, if your in Bristol, keep an eye on the Maker Sunshine festival down on the Rame peninsula [devon/cornwall boarder] and all the other lil gatherings down that way..

cheers flip - lots for me to checkout there. nice one.

I bought an Early Bird Boomtown ticket after having a great time there last year (crackin little festival), and the missus is very keen on beatherder - looks like we may well see you there - good to get recommendations from people who have done loads and know their schenizzle.

I think the summer could have a plan forming - Bearded, Beatherder, Boomtown, Alchemy... looking good.

cheers

In my experience the closest festie in size and vibe to BT is Solfest.

Beatherder is good too but louder and a little more crazy ;)

For something of similar size but a bit more alternative and a lot more Southern you could try TGG (The Green Gathering) in Berkshire. The bands won't be as big but if you like the idea of a sustainably-powered event with intimate venues and lots of creative-crafty-eco stuff going on, then this could be a goer. Just 1-2 more days to get early bird tickets at £75, then up to £90. It's another 4-dayer and will be held on a similar traditional estate to BT with lush meadows and big trees...

Wickham Festival August 4th to 7th. Wickham, Hampshire.

Same weekend as Big Chill but smaller, friendlier and no corporate nonsense.

Artists include Jools Holland; Rolf Harris; Richard Thompson; Bellowhead; Kate Rusby; Eddi Reader; Toyah; The Peatbog Faeries; John Otway; Men They Couldn't Hang and many more.

Plus the Groovy Movie solar-powered cinema tent, Digital Funfair, street theatre, storytelling, Late Night Festival Club etc.

But I'd also recommend Flounder's Endorse It Festival in mid-August as another that's got an excellent name and is well worth attending.

cheers all - really helpful - some I've heard of before, and some I haven't.

Having been to Endorse-it three years running, I know what a great little festival it is. Boomtown tempted me with a stonking lineup last year and has kept me for another year as it was an awesome (if slightly mental) festival. definitely will be back at Endorse soon though.

nice one
