The Top 5

there aren't too many *totally new experience* bands for me, although there are plenty of *heard a bit, never seen, never bought* that have quickly been investigated a lot more - anyone else similar?

anyhow, these are my best from a limited *never come across before* pool:

among brothers [my meursault for this year, not the same as them obviously but similar quality, unheard experience]

sam amidon

found [*your legs are coated, with anti climb paint* superb]

twin shadow

cambodian space project [just wow, quite different but also oddly familiar?]

good question though ben, when you spend a litle time thinking about it you do see how good the lineup is.

My 5 would have to be:

The Deadly Syndrome

White Denim

Dan Mangan

Lightning Dust

Rue Royale

...although I had heard the majority of the other bands at least once somewhere along the line and it's been going back to them and listening again that has made me excited to see them, so I can't include a lot of those bands if I stick to the rules! I could probably include Perfume Genius because I really can't remember if I'd heard of him before the EOTR lineup but he was great at Bush Hall a few weeks ago, definitely on my list of people to see again.

To continue what has been sais a lot in this thread already, my biggest disappointment is probably The Walkmen. I like Lisbon, but saw them play a couple of months ago and found them very boring. I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Woods here...either that means everyone knew them before or no-one has managed to get into them. I admit it took me a few listens to get how great they are, but they're amazing live and well worth the effort.

I'm not surprised that Dry the River keep being mentioned too. I really liked them the first time I saw them but by the third time the novelty had worn off. Definitely this years Mumford & Sons for me.

This is tough as I discovered a lot of EOTR last year or much earlier, hence my decision to drive 700 miles to be there!

Here goes 5 recent ones.

1. Tune-yards (yeah, I know and I don't care). This really hits my alt spot!

2. Mogwai, not really my genre, but pretty good. Getting into them.

3. Dry The River

4. The Unthanks

5. Kurt Vile

but frankly, none of these are why I'm going. What about a thread for the 5 acts we want to see most?

come on ben even grizzy post rock vets like you and me can enjoy 80s pop, when its done well and with love like this?

i was there for this stuff first time round and while it wouldnt be my first choice, its good, and makes me want to put on mega baggy trousers, bleach and blow back what little hair i have left and then put on my pastel shade miami vice jacket (eek)

you can tell he's enjoying it not just going through *style motions* - his music has the hormonal tsunami of a disco for 16 year olds, and i defy you not to groove a bit if *at my heels* is on late in the tipi.

cider on offer if this fails...
