Interpol

Now seems an appropriate time to discuss Interpol following their surprisingly long residence in the the hurt/heal game.

I like them, but they are on the decline, as demonstrated both by album sales and critical reception. When i saw them in December, they told the crowd whenever they had played a song off their new album which was concerning, i was surprised to see them so high up the Reading line-up.

What do we think?

i give up with the embedding.

interpol are fantastic on record and live, one of my favorite bands. I wont be at randl this year but they deserve to be where they are.

if your going by album sales pulp shouldnt be headlining, strokes shouldnt be either.

the same position are offspring and the national, them bands are not actully pulling up trees are they?

just wish interpol were on the pulp day so I could justify a day ticket.

they're good live i reckon, not lively or exciting exactly, but they sound good. Certainly one for listening to rather than dancing to, but i felt the fans understood that when i went to see them.

I'd be rigid with excitement if i hadn't seen them recently.

In comparison to The Offspring and The National they don't look particularly out of place, but i imagined they would appear 4th on the bill or headlining the tent. They would have been a decent alternative to mcr i reckon. Perhaps i underestimated their popularity.

In terms of their setlist, i'm pretty sure they'll open with "lights" or "barricade" and close with "not even jail".

A solid booking in my opinion, deserve to be third, having played the same slot in 2007 and releasing another decent album since, it may be their worst but that isn't saying a lot considering how good the first three were. It's a shame Carlos has left - one of the best bassists I've ever come across, I expect them to open with Success followed by Barricade and to close with Obstacle 1 following PDA, maybe not THAT exciting but definitely deserving.
