Extra bands to be announced?

Deftones played 5th in 2009 but agreed on The Offspring.

Oh, and I hope Pixies aren't headlining the MCR day - due to being constantly skint I can only afford one day ticket (wisely opted for the Pulp/Strokes day) and it would hurt me to be so close to seeing them yet being unable to. :(

I really doubt there any kind of big announcement to come. Anywhere at the top of the bill you try and squeeze somoene in it'll mean pushing another band down to an unrealistically low spot. The only space on the main stage that looks available is anywhere from 5th down on the MCR day and that isn't going to be a spectacular band. There could be another band on the Muse day if they don't get a 2hr set but again the top three are set (no way Elbow would play lower than sub or Interpol lower than third) so I guess a band could come in 4th and push Friendly Fires down, and again that won't be anyone to get excited about or shift a lot of tickets.

I think the Beady Eye day in the tent is set, even if there was a band to go in they wouldn't be high up as Beady Eye would only ever headline the tent and White Lies are legit subs (with a stronger general line-up they probably could have got away with headlining the tent). There's a band less on the other two days, although that's assumed to ne because Jane's Addiction (and maybe glassjaw) will get a longer set than normal and 2manydj's and The Streets will get the same length set due to co-headlining. They could give Jane's Addiction a normal length set and put in an 11th band, but the only way that would be a band big enough to make a difference on a noticeable scale is if they subbed and Crystal Castles were moved down, which is unlikely since it's where they played the year before and they seem to be being pushed up the bill.

I wouldn't assume anything at this point. This is essentially getting back into the debate about why ticket sales are slow. I don't think that FR will have a big problem moving anybody around on the bill apart from the 3 top bands. Maybe they will shuffle bands about? It's probably in an artists contract that FR can move them around on the bill at their own discretion for exactly these reasons.

Could do, but it would only be a decent band not a massive headline-size band. It won't be like R1 Big Weekend where the special guests opening the day were Arctic Monkeys, it'll be a band that would roughly play in that position anyway.

Due to the fact that the MCR day is the 'heavy day' I wouldn't be surprised if it was someone playing Download that they would put in after Download finishes. Could Skunk Anansie or Korn play fifth at R&L? If not then it may be someone like Bring Me The Horizon or Funeral For A Friend playing 5th or lower.

Two hour set for MCR as well? Awesome!

Well, I think it's safe to say Festival Republic messed it up quite big this year. And that's coming from someone who actually likes the line-up!

It seems that from asking around, people who didn't buy their tickets didn't get them because of MCR headlining. That surely shows that despite a decent undercard (which there is this year), ticket sales will increase with additions of big-name bands.

doesn't need to be a huge band.it is still possible to shift a few tickets with the addition of a few bands further down the bill.for example, the addition of bands who have a cult following and don't tour very often (like they've done with glassjaw and DFA1979) could be the announcement that clinches it for a few people who are undecided.

I don't get that, every year I've been to Reading there is normally one headliner that I don't like and have no intention of seeing, another I want to see and the last is a so-so act. There's only ever been 2 years where I wanted to see all 3 headliners.

everyone mentioned the shitness of RHCP in 2009, not so in '10.

I think the headliner has a profound effect on one's impression of the lineup, and really, those are the bands which you're paying a heap for.

I think, even though i'm looking forward to seeing them, that MCR dropping out right now would be pretty good for da festival. Even an emergency replacement would, i suspect, remove the prejudice of having them headlining and squeeze out a few more tickets.

Or one of these exclusives generating some controversy to pull in a few more curious casuals.

Or Korn, Korn would sell a couple of tickets.
