Manufacture's warranty question

I bought a Nintendo DS as a xmas gift but it's now broken and I need to send it off to be repaired by the Nintendo using the manufacture's warranty but I've lost the receipt so if I just make a fake one and pretend I got it off Ebay would I be able to get away it as they're just making sure someone bought it within the timeframe or do they go and check when it was bought/shipped to etc?

Yeah, there's a reference number on the back I had to enter on their site but when I rang up they said I need a receipt/proof of purchase still.

Where'd you buy it? They might be able to take it back.

Nintendo acting the bollox there by the way. If they know the ref number, they know when it was made, they know its still in warranty so they should fix it.

How did you pay for it? A credit card statement, or even a bank statement with some kind of reference is proof of purchase.

Go to the shop and ask for a reprint of the reciept. Some retailers can track electronics with their serial number (I know we do where I work, but we didn't at dsgi.), so a cash payment isnt always an issue.

Now I think about, pc world and currys staff used to take address details when things were sold so we had it on our records for warrenty purposes.

Either way, take it back in, be nice an it's quite likely they can still help you if Comet work in a similar way to Dsgi.
