It won't be SOAD, doubt they are touring this year. Bands that are rumoured to be touring are:

Guns N Roses - have a date heavily rumoured in Poland on 30th June.

Tool - not too likely but they are touring the USA at the moment, so not likely to be there during the summer. New album out in May, might do a festival stint to promote it

Kiss - said on the One Show they'll be here next summer

Van Halen - world tour being announced soon, not been in the UK for 28 years (with David Lee Roth).

Queen (W/ Adam Lambert) - said they'll be doing some dates this year, french radio station leaked they're playing Sonisphere France - same weekend as Soni UK and has shared headliners past year.

Faith No More - also rumoured for Sonisphere France.

Soundgarden - Very unlikely as Matt is with Pearl Jam on saturday, could fly over to do Friday or Sunday headline set with Soundgarden?

Foo Fighters - Unlikely, probably at Reading and Leeds, but soni was in talks with them.

Green Day - Very unlikely as they are massive but Soni said they'd like them to play one year and are due a return to the UK

Muse - NME guessed that they'd do Sonisphere this year - I don't think it'll happen, but who knows?

That's all I can think of off the top of my head!

You missed one Kip, I know I keep mentioning them, but they are the most likely in my opinion -

Linkin Park - New album due out this year, have 2 dates booked at Rock am Ring, Chester left a message saying watch this space, many more gigs to follow, did a Soni leg last year, would be an easy booking that guarantee's sales no matter what.

Dispite Kipper saying that organisers have said headliners are booked [i've never seen this and surely they would have been able to announce at least ONE headliner by now]

Soni's twitter seems to suggest otherwise

To nice poster, needs some bands on it

reply ... ''There is a few, needs more mind.''

We want metal headliners, no green day

reply... ''Likely to be a mix''

LIKELY? That doesn't sound too convincing that they have all 3 headliners, otherwise it would be we will have a mix, sounds like they aren't sure at all who's headlining.

and saying only a few acts on the poster, sounds like they're really struggling to get enough acts ready to announce.

A lot of the rock fests in Europe have announced a lot and Download will next week, surely Soni should have enough booked that they could pull together a decent announcement of say one headliner and a few high undercard acts by now?

It was in NME I believe, and despite what Dok says on twitter - as he is the art director and not the one that books bands, they'll be tied down. He already said on facebook, and liked my comment both of which basically said, they bands are in place, just contract and touring scheduling means they can't announce just yet. I can see what you're getting at with the way it's worded, but at this stage it's very very unlikely they wouldn't have everything in place - generally headliners are booked long before now. Him saying it's likely to be a mix is probably just a hint that it's not going to be "pure metal" headliners like the guy asked, so as for him not to get his hopes up. Even if he did rather foolishly ask if Machine Head would headline instead of Green day xD

Sonisphere never do the initial announcement till they have everything ready, last year was a slight exception as they brought the Slipknot announcement forward a few days (due to their come back close to leaking) and the Big 4 were delayed a week because one of the bands websites broke last minute, which threw a spanner in the works, but they planned to announce all at the same time. They've also got a bunch of other Sonispheres to flesh out and launch - which generally comes at the same time, as they said before xmas their main focus and cause of delay was to sort them out too. Im sure they could announce just one headliner, but if it's just their weakest headliner they are ready to announce, it could do more damage than good, they'll want to make as big an impression as possible with the first announcement, and rushing out a half ready announcement wouldn't do them any favours. It'd almost be like if they had announced Biffy Clyro first this year and waited a week or so before announcing Slipknot and the Big 4, the whining would have been 1,000,000 times worse.

And yeah, sorry I knew I forgot one, Linkin Park are possible as well!

Yeah I defo see what you're saying in regards to the first announcement has to be something to get people talking in a positive way rather than negative for the sake of just talking, but surely some of the undercard with the weakest headliner would be strong enough otherwise why have them on the bill if they're so poor, undercard is just as important as headliners these days I think with so much choice.

EDIT - oh and I didn't know who was doing the Soni twitter, thought it would be someone who was in the know more

Well the team at Kili live is a small team, so he is definitely in the know. But at the same time, it's not like it's Stuart Galbraith or one of the promoters who actually do the band bookings that runs the twitter :P So I think he sometimes avoids commenting on specific line up questions because it's not really his place to say, where as Andy Copping for example can be more direct with questions about bands because it's him that's in charge.

And I'm sure the undercard is fine, but if it's only going to be the sake of another week or so, they'd probably just wait and announce it all together, it's still earlier than 2009's first announcement anyways, and not even a month later than 2010/2011.

Ha, I don't use the Soni boards, I did sign up in the first year but haven't used it since. Great minds think alike it must be.

Im just saying these things cus I don't want Soni to go away, I want them to be successful and to have more great fests in UK.

Download Ive criticised PLENTY in the past, but right now Ive got nothing to criticise them for.

I don't think every band touring will play download but do I say they're in the running, if theres no certain reason why they wouldn't be then yeah, why not. Obviously they all won't. It's not every band either, what I've put about 20 odd.

We're just talking about acts here, getting a bit excited, the anticipation, the hopes, then the disappointment ha ha, its what its all about!

I dunno how you think Download can't compete though. Yeah it had a poor year it terms of 2010 and 2009 in sales, but it was still very busy and sold more tickets than Soni did and always will do, Soni can only do 60k. Download can do more than double that. in 2010 they did 120k, if thats going down the toilet im sure they'd be saying flush away!

Maybe someone needs to start a Soni rumour thread in here I started the Killswitch thread, but theres no real rumour thread, why don't you? Then we won't have a bunch of bands in the running for Download only?

i think i may have got you a little confused there.

what i meant was the date (7th feb) was 90% likely to be the new album, which is probably 100% by now.

and on friday they will probably announce the first set of dates for the tour (thursday in america)

I think the 'Van Halen for Europe' drive has come in two waves. The first one one quashed back in October (see efests link about dates being scrapped), then news came out that they were touring in 2012 and people started to get excited again, and then this guy from Sweden says that they aren't doing Europe as part of the 2012 tour.

couldn't find a quote of that on the sweden rock facebook....

edit:

found it, was on the post with a poster, they had posted it as a comment. not in the summer so that leaves aend of year tour perhaps or maybe 2013..

Sweden Rock Festival Van Halen will NOT tour in Europe this summer
