yeah, but yopu've also said that you'd heard Queen with AL were doing France.

The info I've had has so strongly suggested that was never on the cards that I can't believe you're getting accurate info.

(That doesn't mean you're necessarily wrong about that, after all, they have to have someone. But your info isn't as good as you're believing).

Well the Queen and Faith No More leak for Soni France was from a radio station in France who said Queen, FNM, Slash, Soulfly and Manson would be at Soni France away back in December. So it wasn't really from anyone I know, it was just information from the internet! That being said, they were right about Soulfly, MM, and Faith No More - which was a bit of an out there "guess" if it was inaccurate seeing as up untill now they showed no signs of touring.

I don't know if it's certainly Kiss, but I'm quite sure, but we'll see on Monday ;)

Fair enough. Must have been a hope at Soni's end then I guess. It doesn't sound like it was ever a possibility at the other end from what I've heard.

Manson had passed me by until now, didn't realise they were even still around. A mate of mine that I haven't seen for 20+ years used to do their sound, so I'll have to try and catch them somewhere and try and catch up with him.

What is the capacity now at Download vs. Sonisphere?

Does Knebworth have much opportunity to expand its site to anywhere near the capacity of Download?

Just trying to judge whether this country can really afford to have two large rock festivals in the summer (quite close to each other distance wise too+R&L nicking the odd potential band) & whether the Soni organisers can really see a future in the festival if it really has got to the point where bands are hard to get to headline & sub (DL have, I'm not going to say resorted, but gone a different route & got the Prodigy/C&S in) as I guess any natural way for organisers to make money is expansion at some point (eg Reading last year, Latitude). Any ideas Neil for future, not necessarily info, I would much like to know your opinion?

I can see Download selling out if Sabbath don't pull out publicly in the next couple of months.

ive said for a long time that this country cant sustain 2 good heavy festivals at this level. one of them needs to die. id rather dl survived personally.

last year dl lineup was nowhere near as good as soni, and if the indicators are to be believed, this year is gonna be the reverse.

id much rather have one top festival with a stellar lineup. its obvious soni have struggled and settled for a "fish out of water" in queen, just to get some hype and shift tickets. imho at the expense of the traditional heavy rock festival lineup.

I'm not even sure it can sustain one, at least not of three days. The speed at which the same bands come around again and again gets to show there's a very limited pool of acts to work from.

Is it bad that I really wouldn't mind if Evanescence headline *embarrassed*. I reckon it would be much better than bands like Kiss.. Evanescence were the band who got me started on heavy music. They led me to KoRn who led me to Kerrang TV who led me to SOAD.

Heavy music is a dying art form at the moment and from the limited appropriate bands available to headline theese festivals it is either a nostalgia act, a band who played the fest recently (DL or Soni) or the next best thing that will appeal to the masses (ie Prodigy/Pendulum) there just isn't enough strength in depth to keep DL & Soni going plus you have R/L and IOW which take some the potential bands sometimes.

people can pull the "heavy" "rock" and "metal" labels all they like to justify what they like. the crowd at download, and at soni is predominately a trad "heavy metal" crowd, whichever way you slice it.

id love the foos, or muse - even though neither are "metal" but they fit into the whole alt scene.

how is that "pulling tricks"? rammstein would have played download if soni wasnt on the calendar, and vice versa. I wouldnt be gutted if soni survived and DL died, i just prefer donington park as a venue. the walk isnt that big a deal, and the campsite at soni is fucking awful. that hill from the arena is a pisstake.

Wow what a strange journey you had to getting into SOAD, I used to watch kerrang as a boy and when chop suey first came out me and my mates went mental and jumped around the living room (I was about 11/12 at the time) and I wanted a beard like Shavo. Good times.

are you on drugs?

do you honestly think Rammstein said "we will never play download, lets hope another festival pops up"

rammstein hadnt played any UK festival prior to soni, they have been on the verge of calling it a day for years, it takes a lot of elements to be aligned to get rammstein at your festival, soni were in the right place at the right time. that is all.

if you think that is incorrect, you really havent a clue what you are talking about. and you certainly dont know anything about rammstein

On the other side of this though, all the time they were thinking of calling it a day and didn't they still turned up at a UK festival and it was Sonisphere. Your slightly suggesting that were years on end that Download tried the timing was never right?
