Phoenix was one of the better festivals (once you got in) in the 90s. Reading and Glasto had become quite boring especially when grunge died off and Brit pop took over!

Phoenix was the only place where Neil Young was on one night and The Prodigy the next!

My greatest festival moment was when the organisers had the brain wave to put Orbital on before Bowie on the main stage! Watching 25,000 Bowie clones all dancing to Orbital was pure magic.

I too hope it is back at Long Marston. They had sorted the traffic issues out by 97.

Having been to both Pheonix and Reading I have to admit I preferred Reading. The transport links to Pheonix were a joke. 2 shuttle buses an hour and a bus service which stops just as the last acts finish.

Regarding the pumkins, I don't think they're a headline act any more. Filling academy venues and not arenas.

I personally doubt it will happen and if the headliners are bjork and pumpkins I don't see it competing with the bigger festivals such as reading and leeds. Given the original rumour was that they had the Stone Roses, Pumpkins and Bjork are quite a step down from that.

Ain't looking likely is it? You could argue that Reading/V haven't announced their line-ups yet so its not outside the realms of possibility, but they have regulars which Phoenix obviously won't have. Unless the line-up is stellar, think a late announcement is gonna see them struggle to compete

This could be well moody so suggest nobody tries to buy until an official announcement is made but

seems to suggest it'll be at Long Marston and will be Thursday 12th July...

...although it does appear they've taken the info off the fake poster that 'Frankly Mr Shankly' did...you've created a monster Shankly!

For me... No announcement = problems.

No announcement + problems = no one buys a ticket.

Do we even know the capacity? Global Gathering is about 50k off the top of my head (felt a lot less when there) so is feasible if it's at Long Marston with an arena bigger than Readings.

Its only just the 2nd week in January, plenty time for a festival to announce thats on in July!

Vince knows what he is doing, if its late launched and still manages to make an impact, he won't really bother too much about it initially selling out.

Seem to remember the same happened with Hop Farm

From the snippets I've heard it sdeems to be the case that planning is going ahead for Phoenix (tho it's a little while since I've heard anything, so it's possible that thin things have changed in the meantime).

From what I know of festivals outside of the major players, as a general case if they're wanting to get bands that could be of interest to those major players they'll only get sorted out with those bands once the major players are sorted - unless they go in with a ridiculously high money offer.

So for the likes of Phoenix (if it's going ahead of course) they're likely to make their announcement after the major players have firmed up a good amount of their line-ups, so that Phoenix can pick up what they want from what's left at a reasonable price rather than a silly one.

That might not apply with the headliners that Phoenix might want of course, because they'll need major names to draw in people's interest in the first place - so it's a decent possibility that Phoenix will have to pay over the going rate for those.
