Kill
I joined the anthony nolan bone marrow register around 2 years ago after a local drive to help a girl with leukemia, sadly no match was found but today I receive an email saying I may be a match for another patient on the register. The odds of this are around 20,000-1! They have invited me to go for further tests, and I now have around a 1 in 4 chance of being picked! Hard to describe how I'm feeling right now a mixture of nerves and excitement and having the opportunity to save someones life. I have hardly being able to concentrate at work today and have decided to make the phone call and go in for a blood test. I am not sure my family are 100% supportive as they are more concerned about possible implications to my health, which I have explained are only short term such as fatigue, soreness. I have been on the website today and apparently men aged between 18-30 are the most likely to match yet only account for 12 percent of the register. If anyone is interested you can sign up on the website http://www.anthonynolan.org
Katster
I would probably be feeling exactly the same as you with more nerves and less excitement. I think it's wonderful if you can and do do it. I'm not sure I could

beadfc
I signed up a couple of weeks ago and just got my initial test through the post. Think it's a great thing for people to do. Really hope you can help out, soreness and being tired for a few days are no match for actually saving someones life. Brilliant!

jonnyx
I had cancer this year, and had to have the bone marrow sample too. I was sat in the waiting room, and the woman (40-50) before me came out crying and screaming, and hugged her husband whispering so loudly so everybody in the room could hear "that was the worst experience of my life", and going on and on and on about the pain!. Honestly what a slut!. For those few minutes, before they called my name I've never been so frightened. I didn't find it too bad to be honest, apart from that bit when they waggle it free! ouch!. Thanks though from people like me, to all those who offer help to others.
