2012 is the 10th Download:

1. 2003

2. 2004

3. 2005

4. 2006

5. 2007

6. 2008

7. 2009

8. 2010

9. 2011

10.2012

Whether it's the 10th anniversary or not probably depends on your application of the English language and whether you're the type of person who thought that the new Millennium began at the start of 2000 or the start of 2001.

Probably because of Pendulum whoring themselves out to all the festivals and getting well received and Chase & Status seem to be going the same route.

I couldn't tell you a Chase and Status song to be honest, probably heard some, but if it was on in a pub I wouldn't know it was them. But I know they are popular, I know a few people who are download goers who like them.

I think they're going down the same route as Pendulum playing many different fests and just getting bigger and bigger.

Anyway, interestingly today Andy said to me on twitter he doesn't see Paramore as main stage headliner material by next summer, at the moment yes, but next summer he thinks they will have dipped in popularity, he said to someone else maybe second stage headliners.

He's also bigging up Iron Maiden and hinted they could be headlining next year.

EDIT - forgot to say that one minute he says he doesn't want to book the acts that play Sonisphere so one year they're headlining Soni and then the next at Download, but then the next he's saying he's open to booking Rammstein and Iron Maiden, Sonisphere headliners from 2010.

I think I'm right in saying that Iron Maiden were headlining Sonispheres in Europe this summer - Spain, for example? Not my thing, really, but I agree they'd probably sell a lot of tickets (and we'd probably go watch them for the crack, if there was nothing better on .... ;) )

I tweeted AC about the possibility of A7X headlining 2012 but he replied saying "Not in 2012, but possibly in the future"

I knew it was always unlikely as it hardly happens to play second and then headline the next year but as they're my favourite band id give it a go.

My personal prediction is... Metallica, Rammstein and Paramore to headline with Machine Head, Evanescence and Pendulum or Limp Bizkit supporting. (not many big bands who could support Paramore in similar music)

I was only citing Machine Head as they were one of the handful of bands that Mr Copping listed as future mainstage headliners (that hadn't headlined before), the list IIRC was MH, Paramore, Pendulum, BFMV, A7X & ADTR (although he said ADTR were a couple of years away).

Paramore look good on paper but I'm unsure how they'd fare with the Download crowd, especially as it's a much older general demographic that at R&L? I've only ever seen Paramore the once, at Leeds last year. They were OK but for me didn't have the 'wow' factor I was expecting. I've read that the audience at their own shows is considerably younger, is this fitting with the average 'Downloader'?

Regarding QotSA and the possibility of them headlining...

People seem to keep mentioning whether they are big enough to do this - in 2005 the Friday night headliner was Feeder! If Feeder can headline surely QotSa can.

And whoever discounted them because of the lineup changes they've had over the years/lack of playing arenas - would you say NIN (if they were still going) wouldn't be good enough to headline? Because, in terms of lineups, they're kind of the same (NIN are Trent plus whoever he recruits at the time), and the only time they ever played arenas in this country was on their goodbye tour in 2009 (when they played the MEN and the O2 - before that I think the biggest venue here they headlined was Brixton Academy), however I'm sure they could have easily headlined Download before then...

Saying that I'm hoping the headliners next year will be Rammstein (they're doing their "best of" tour next year and AC has been after them for years), Tool (because they're fricking awesome!), and Pearl Jam (because they are are not only fricking awesome but could probably just about fit in to the list of bands that could be acceptable for the Sunday classic rock thing that AC seemsto like - maybe make it a bit of grungey classic rock next year and have Soundgarden as main support (Matt Cameron will just have to have a busy day :) with Alice in Chains below them).

Also I asked him about the likelihood of A7X/Bullet playing again next year and he replied by asking me "Who would you like to see?"

So I told him A7X/Bullet/Nickelback, any one of those andd he came back saying "I better get busy then!"

Not sure what I'm supposed to take that to mean but hey!

And yes I know it's unlikely Bullet or Avenged will play next year as both played this year, but a girl can dream! :(

Ah okay then, didn't think it would be likely...

TBH i don't think Paramore should headline Download as i believe it should be a metal/heavy rock festival and leave R & L for the Alt/Punk/Indie stuff. But then MCR, Lost Prophets, Offspring, Feeder have all headlined so its looks likely.

Cost a lot but can you imagine the buzz for Metallica, Iron Maiden and Rammstein to headline???

KISS are the outside bets for me.

That's why I always wanted to go to Download, because I THOUGHT it was supposed to be a metal/heavy rock festival, and when I started hearing about Paramore headlining it kinda ruined my romantic idea of what Download should be, and as next year will be my first time to Download (first festival ever actually) I think I'd be pretty disappointed if Paramore headlined. If Metallica and Remmstein headlined I think I'd cry with happiness lmao.

It should be a metal/heavy rock festival. I think Green Day would be an incredible booking though IMHO.

I think Paramore should headline R&L before they get a chance at Download, less feisty crowd and be a decent chance to see how they headline.

Rammstein look to be a good bet i think... Metallica may take a break for a year or something.
