how about cutting the maverick some slack this year.apart from the def leppard howler,i dont really see what he's done to deserve all the vitriol.

last year was probably the best three headliners of any festival ever,i mean,rage,AC/DC and aerosmith.awesome.

this year we had black stone cherry, thin lizzy and alter bridge lower down the bill on friday.the darkness reunion(novelty acts are stilll big business, tenaciuos d,steelpanther, spinal tap still selling out venues).

on the second stage we had BMTH,the mighty korn and pendulum who all sent the crowd mental.

saturday had down, avenged sevenfold and the reformed SOAD(this really was a massive booking) alongside legends twisted sister and alice cooper.

add sundays linkin park and rob zombie and we had a great bill.realistically we wern't likely to get better(note i said realistically before anyone says rush could have opened the second stage and green day could have played before frank turner)

i had a great time and everyone else seemed to as well.lets be honest,he does seem to be genuinely trying to get the best bill and it not in his best interests to book bands that no-one wants to see.

i'm not saying he could get away with another 'def leppard size' headliner but lets give him a chance this year and try to avoid slagging him off if he books a band you don't like.

It isn't the fact he books bands that people don't like, it's that he talks up doing things that he then doesn't deliver and puts down bands as not boing good/big enough then books bnads that are clearly a worse option.

He put on a good bill, second stage was strong, third stage was strong in places, main stage however was lacking, Friday was good, Saturday was average and poor in places and Sunday was very poor IMO. Pretty Reckless 5th high, w*nk.

He seemed to leave big gaping holes in his line up that he struggled to fill, Skunk Anansie although I love them didn't fit in third place under Avenged Sevenfold, Down should have been lower, Hollywood Undead were shockingly high, Skindred were well placed however.

The whole day had an awful flow. Sunday was just lackluster

What Andy has said on twitter is now that with Sonisphere the line ups are interchanging and nothing stands out, he wants to build a line up of acts that don't play the festivals year in year out, which is great, the headliners in 2010 work under this, but really how many acts are out there that he can work under this? Im interested to see just who he can get and if its awesome headliners the undercard will suffer because of the cost involved.

With the number of festivals around it's hard to put together a bill of bands that either aren't repeats or haven't played other festivals in the same year. R&L have a few (The Offspring, glassjaw, DFA1979, 30STM) but in most other areas either have bands who played last year or the year before or who have played other festivals this year.
