Benj
There's a lot of talk every year about after band activiits, silent discos, DJ tents etc, who actually uses them? I've never done anything at a festival other than sit with my mates around the tent, or maybe go for a bit of a wander after the arena action finishes. Then again by the time they were introduced I was an old fart So how many people actually use the after hours entertainment? People always bang on about no out of hours entertainment at Reading, when it reality there is tonnes, as you're only a 20 minute walk from all the clubs in town, Purple Turtle etc, which are always busy, I've never bothered with any of it, bar a couple of beers in our hotel bar replacing the cans around the campfire! Also at Reading do they still do the Rivermead centre club nights, or have those been ended?? Also has anyone been to the Casino on Richfield Av?! mrtourette
I don't use them but then again I don't camp and live in town, I can understand someone camping who may not know Reading wanting to stay in the campsite rather than heading to the Turtle or somewhere else for beers. Even when I did camp I could never be bothered to walk into town after a day on my feet. They don't do the club nights at Rivermead any more, I used to go to the one on the Thursday night. The casino's OK but nothing special, it's a pretty good size. Not sure of they have any restrictions on festival goers though, I'm pretty sure there's some kind of dress code but I guess you could head back to the hotel and change. ar1
I like you guys always liked to have sit round the campfire, drink a couple of cans of (warm) cider and have a good chat with good mates - even better when someone brings out a guitar and singing happens But going to V a couple of times made me appreciate what the first nihght of fest could be a again - the arena is open with the bars, funfair, foodstalls and loads of people. Going back to Reading last year made me miss FeetFirst at the Rivermead on the Thurs - we just walked around loads and loads, drank cans and then fell-over. I reckon if the opened up the Arena and just the Bars and foodstalls they'd do a roaring trade but I know it's all to do with the license - come on Reading council sort out the locals! rexclark
Went to Reading once in 2000 and we went to the Rivermead on the Thursday night. As for Leeds, the Picadilly party is where I normally go. A big outdoor Indie disco playing allsorts of great music till 6am. You can go for a dance or just sit on the hill and chill. It's fantastic. rexclark
Piccadilly Party is really underrated imo. It's always really good fun and on the sunday Im normally there til it finishes (often its gone past 6am, as not many council officials are up and taking note at that point ) That said i dont think the atmosphere comes across well in the first vid, despite the good tune
Dan R
I don't think there are any vids that catch the atmosphere that well. I love it. The tunes are always amazing and the crowd are always up for it. The only downside is the Cider tent next to it. I was wrecked, had about three pints of Hot & Spicy cider and was sick on my shoes. rexclark
Theres a cider tent next to it!?! How the hell have I not noticed/remembered this? Could've done with some hot & spicy cider last year on the Sunday, was bloody freezing!
Dan R
I think it's to the right of it. It sells all sorts of Organic cider. Not too bad but the Hot & Spicy can get a bit sickly after a while.

DJL
We're staying in town and only have sat/sun day tickets so not technically allowed in the campsite. Looking for decent bars in town where we can get in after the headliners in festival clothes. Suggestions? Is the purple turtle any good? DJL
It depends completely what you're after..

mrtourette
Terrible bar staff though, and it's likely to be busy. But would suit a festival crowd. Edited August 11, 2011 by mrtourette
