ar1
With Thames Valley Police providing support to the Met in London, with officers and with locking up suspects is there a possibility that not enough Police support could be provided for the festival to go ahead. This has already happenned for the football match tomorrow but hopefully they can sort it out in the next two weeks.... Reading on Sunday night on some year has actually been a good example of what's been happening in London, crowd mentality meaning that people think that they can get away with what's normally forbidden.
mrtourette
If Thames Valley cannot support the festival due to working with the Met then it's a real possibility. In situations like this it's just another public event that needs a police prescence to go ahead.
jump
Nah, it'll be over by then and extra police normally come in on the Sunday night as it's paid overtime by FR unlike the riots where it comes out of their own budget.
ar1
I think tonight will be pivotal - there will be a show of strength with a huge Police presence but if they don't wrestle control of the streets back, this coudl go on for weeks and we're knackered

rexclark
It'll all be over by then anyway. People will probably mention it getting cancelled same as they did with Foot And Mouth, Swine Flu, Bird Flu, Terrorism........

sjp_121
Could the mentality make the problems at R+L worse though? I heard Reading last year wasn't bad, and where I was at Leeds was okay, but I did see quite a few large fires... and in a place like R+L with a large group of younger people who might be inclined to "have a bit of fun" as they would say it... it might cause a number of problems? jump
It doesn't help that Itch from The King Blues has been ranting on twitter about how great the riots are and as soon as they start playing Streets Are Ours at R&L he'll no doubt say something about. jump
He's just gone right down in my estimation, it's one thing ranting about standing up to the BNP and EDL it's another supporting violence and thuggery! harderfaster
I'm stewarding again this year, but like f**k am I making any attempt to calm anyone on Sunday night. If a few kids can smash up a Tesco in London then a thousand pilled up young adults could quite easily smash my face to bits.
FiestaDave
Sod all trouble in London last night. Way too many police for anything to happen. Highly doubt Reading will even think about the possibility of cancelling.
mrtourette
I'm pretty sure those affected last night wouldn't call it sod all but yeah it looks like it's dying down. The Thames Valley police shouldn't be needed by the time the festival rolls around, the only worry is that it's put ideas into stupid people's heads. jump
It'll be interesting to see if it keeps over the weekend, the last few nights no one has wanted to go out. I was in a bar and it 3/4 people in there and normally it has around 100+ people but come the weekend (which is when it kicked off originally) people are more willing to go out and those who do may be more inclined for a ruck which could spark it up again. My money is it's over though, especially in London as most of the parts that are likely to riot already have. I'm just more worried that everything will be empty and have a dead atmosphere.
