driving- best time to set off ensuring a good camp spot

We're driving from wolverhampton and last year we camped on blue (lucky to get a spot there at 10 in the morning) but felt on the saturday and sunday night it was too quiet. We're aiming to go on red this year as I've been told it's the liveliest campsite out of all of them but obvisouly it fills up the quickest. What time should we set off from wolverhampton or what time should we aim to be around the weston park area to ensure we get there and parked up on time in order to get a spot on the red campsite? We took the bus last year and found the traffic wasn't too bad getting there but if driving should more queues and waiting be expected?

We live in Cannock and set off at half 6. Get to WP about 7am and drive straight into car parks The campsites are already pretty busy at that time!

ok thank you does that mean that you couldn't have got a spot on the red campsite though last year at the time you arrived?

No you will get a spot easily at that time, I just mean that they are starting to fill up. I wouldn't leave any later than 7ish if your aiming to get a good spot. The first time I camped in red we left Cannock at 10 and the only spot we could find was next to the portaloos
