BEWARE! Bestival parking

If any on here are planning to park in Gunwharf Keys at the discounted rate of £15 for the weekend with a Wightlink ticket, then beware. Although the Wightlink website says "We have negotiated special rates with Gunwharf Quays for parking over Bestival for Wightlink customers (on production of a valid Wightlink ticket/receipt): £15 to park between 8th - 12th September 2011.", I've contacted the car park themselves and it's £15 per 24 hours, so up to £75.

I imagine a lot will be suckered in by this. On that note, are there any recommendations on where to park?

It would be cheaper to park in Gosport on the other side of Portsmouth Harbour from Gunwharf and catch a cross-harbour ferry (a 5 minute trip, every 15 minutes from 5am to midnight). This takes you to the pontoon alongside Portsmouth Harbour station from where you can catch the fastcat to Ryde on the IoW.

Note you can park on the street in Gosport for free. There are plenty of on-street parking spaces within a 10-15 minute walk of the ferry that don't have a time limit on how long you can park. Use the roads off Stoke Road, Forton Road or Spring Garden Lane near the town centre.

There are no traffic wardens patrolling the on-street parking spaces in Gosport so as long as you don't park in the Council car parks or on yellow lines you can enjoy free on-street parking all weekend.
