eFestivals
I don't think so. That's a very risky strategy. A strong showing from Obama lastnight and he could have buried romney's campaign. Instead this has bought him back into the race it's a marathon, not a sprint. Last night seemed just too different to the normal Obama for there not to be a bit of a plan in there somewwhere I reckon. If it's not that then I can only think that he doesn't much feel like representing a country of morons who'd think even for a moment about voting for Romney, and he wants out. Ed209
that wasn't far off "normal Obama". That looked like mid-term Obama. Fed up, tired, scatty. Seen it before. Thought we had old Obama back after the DNC though.

metallimuse
his cunning plan might be that he thinks Mitt’s a no-hoper, but by giving him some hope, it would move resources away from senatorial/congressional races…
pink_triangle
Consensus says he bossed it and I also disagree about not being game changing. No body was giving him a chance before & I think after that most people would now say he's come roaring into this race, which I'd say was the number one goal of that first debate. That was game changing. . thesecretingredientiscrime
I remember during the british primeminister debates people were talking about cleggs perfromance making the lib dems the main opposition party and they ended up losing seats. I think for the debate to be a game changer there would have to be a single memorable moment and I dont beleive there was.
pink_triangle
But the debates in the UK were undoubtedly a game changer. It was Clegg's "nme cover" bringing him to the attention of the general public.
eFestivals
It made clegg more famous but I think the end result would have been con/lib coalition debates or non debates. His increased fame wasnt converted to seats. but the bigger LibDem vote probably caused the tories to not win some seats they might have otherwise taken. It's impossible to judge what the real effect was, but I'd say it wasn't insignificant.
metallimuse
I've seen reports on Twitter that Romney is back tracking drastically on his 47% comment in the past 24 hours after his winning performance at the first debate, not sure how true that is I haven't investigated it myself. Ed209
yes there is. I had a Canadian friend who was working with me in Texas. He started doing an evening class in local wildlife and conservation cus he loves that kind of thing, which was run by the department of biology at the University of Texas. One day they got in a guest lecturer from the department of biology at Texas A&M, a highly regarded university. This guest lecturer then proceeded to lecture them about creationism. My friend, being a level headed organic chemist, obviously stood up and walked out, never to return to the course. No one else there battered an eye-lid. Weirdos
The Nal
What is it then? Do they know? They must know? Is it fear of God? "Lets pretend to believe in this thing which is 100% completely proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to be wrong - in case God judges us". ??? eFestivals
What is it then? Do they know? They must know? Is it fear of God? I think it's just stupidity. Anyone whose grey matter was working properly would realise it's the same dependence on science that has an aeroplane stay in the sky as shows that (the basics at least) evolution theory is correct too. If a person thinks that evolution theory is wrong they should - if they're joining up the dots - expect a plane to fall out of the sky. What's certain is that their brain is not functioning properly. They're not evaluating all ideas on the same basis. Edited October 9, 2012 by eFestivals
