and there lies the tragic truth of the situation. Idiots breeding idiots, who vote for idiots to keep producing idiots

yep - and in the UK too.

We're told that everything is the fault of too much spending - and yet over the last 20 years the tax take from the upper echelons of society has been proportionately falling, with the loss made up by taxation on the rest of society.

And as that process has happened, the number of tax inspectors has fallen hugely. The last time I checked my business is likely to get tax inspected once every 173 years.

Danny Alexander proudly announced a few weeks back that they'd be 1,000 new tax inspectors who will focus on the rich. Sounds great, doesn't it?

What he didn't tell you is that since 2010, 10,000 tax inspectors have disappeared - so what he's really saying is that the rich have just one tenth of the chance of being fairly taxed now than they did a few years ago.

And meanwhile, the tories pass laws to make it EASIER to avoid tax off-shore. That's not the crack-down that Osbourne has falsely suggested.

We're fucked.

there is a study out today by the cps which suggests that isn't the case. It says the amount contributed by the richest has stayed amazingly constant over the last 30 years. According to the statistics the main problem in the west is down to the aging population, as a greater percentage of your population become pensioners you switch to fewer net contributers and more taking out

it depends which way the numbers are looked at. As a proportion of all economic activity it's decreased at the 'personal income' level (income tax, CGT, etc).

There was a really good three parter on the Clintons on BBC2 recently. I only caught it as it was on after Thick Of It. I had a bit of trouble working out which one was real at some points! They also showed a very good film called Primary Colours. It was billed as being about a mixture of US presidents rolled into one, but when you look at Travolta's character in it...

The Clinton one was a four parter I believe and was orginionally aired on PBS but the BBC used the mum from My Family for the voiceover instead. Was a really good watch I thought.

I saw a great one on Bush Snr on PBS around the time of the first debate aswell.
