'Ethnic cleansing' is taking it too far. It's just discrimination. It's easier to keep tabs on people who have a fixed address.

Rubbish. They're two seperate things.

One exists for the convenience of national law and sovereign rule. Much like we don't allow certain regional customs to exist, due to national law. The other is a relflection of certain people's prejudices and ignorance, which is not implemented by law.

Unless you're able to point out the period of time where there was no discrimination, which would then allow the birth of new and separate ways of discrimination (such as the two current forms we've mentioned)?

The local authority was to slow to act, however once it did act everything was done in accordance with the law, there are rights to appeal and this is done by an independent planning inspector.

the houses built around the Dale Farm site have been built illegally without planning permission - including the house of the guy who was at the forefront of getting the travellers evicted.

It's a case of one implementation of the law for one bunch of people, and another entirely different implementation for the detested travellers. And yet it's the travellers who have almost no choice for where they reside whilst those who are happy to be house-dwellers have almost unlimited choice (and so had less justification from the reality of things for ignoring planning laws).
