as a matter of fact, Jews are a race (whetever you might think about the limiting nature of labelling people by their ethnicity aside). The traditional religion of the Jewish race is Judaism. the two are linked, but separate. You can be Jewish with being a practicing religious Jew (it is a fact that genetically the vast majority of ethnic Jews can trace a common genetic heritage to the middle east) . You can convert to Judaism, but that does not make you ethnically a Jew.
