It won't be Van Halen (again)

The Download boards always have hated efestivals, if they see something on here they think its lies.

yeah, they said that the several years we had the headliners spot on in our rumours, and then afterwards they started claiming we'd taken those rumours from posts on their forums.:lol:

In regards to [im guessing Neil not Scottie] attacking Andy Coppings choice of acts he's not shy about sharing that he's going to today and tomorrow, I don't understand the point in that, he doesn't book those for his festival, whats wrong with him going to see whom he wants to see?

well, apart from the fact that there's few acts as gash as Perry, he's more than welcome to like who he likes.

Just as we're more than welcome to publish any stories that we want to. :)

If he wants to get pathetic and pretend there's not a story out there that is out there (the one we *repeated* and made clear we were repeating, we didn't invent it) and blame us for it, then surely we're entitled to poke fun back at him on whatever basis we like? We'd not be being any more pathetic than him.

That aside, we do know for certain that AC has been chasing VH for at least 3 years. So there's three possible options:-

1. they were booked, and he's lying that they weren't.

2. they weren't booked, because they'd knocked him back yet again.

3. they were being lined up but it hadn't been fully firmed up yet.

Whichever one it was, he's got FAR more reason to be pissed off with VH than anything we might write about VH and Download.

Personally, i reckon his anger is more related to a recent-ish quote of mine that was used in a newspaper (I forget which), where I pointed out that there's only so many times people will go and see what is a small-ish number of the same bands rotating on the bill of Download.

The quote was, as is normally the case with newspapers, used out of the full context of what I'd said, so looked far more critical of Download than what I'd actually said in full.

That aside, there's history to support the view I take of Download's future in the long term, and I suspect that's high in AC's mind too - and he disliked me pointing out the obvious.

the truth is, he hasnt got a clue how to handle stuff in public. if he hadnt even acknowledged that post, he would have got a few tweeters asking him, which he could have responded with a "its news to me" and the whole damn thing would have gone away in a few weeks. as it stands, the toys AND the dummy came flying straight out of the pram and he has made himself look like a tit once more.

he needs some big names after last years debacle, and as much as I love VH - and I do, they arent a big name any more, apart from in the classic rock circles.

as for katy perry - go see her if you must, just dont expect me to take you seriously as a music fan, and if you are the booker for the "biggest rock festival in the UK" dont fucking brag about it either.

On the whole Van Halen thing i was never a massive fan in the 80's so i was not over fussed but i can see why AC is annoyed, if this was to have been their only Uk date who knows Download could have had the 110k that AC/DC had in 2010 thus securing the festival for another few years.

Ozzy came out yesterday and said a Sabbath reunion is possible.

"Yes, it's a very, very strong possibility," Ozzy said of the reunion. "It's in the very early stages, so we haven't recorded anything yet. If it works out, it'll work out. If it doesn't, I'll keep doing my thing."

So always still a possibility?

I like that Andy is in the public eye and if hes a tit hes a tit, he goes to loads of really shit rock based acts too I dont really care what he goes to as long as the download line up looks good to me, ill go, if it doesnt, I wont.

It looks like next yr Rammstein are a lock as RHCP are for Soni, im more interested in the former than the latter, if so lets see who else plays. Im not expecting to be wowed tbh

I think it's just a case of Mr. C taking things personally. Which, I suppose when you put yourself into a position of being the public face of a festival then you kinda have to expect. Can't be nice though. I mean, he really does get a lot of grief from people which is a tad mean when he's obviously passionate about the festival, then again if you bite when someone winds you up, people are just going to keep winding you up to get a reaction!

Apparently Van Halen ARE the third headliner.

And Download is their ONLY show in the whole of Europe.

If this is true, tickets are gunna fly

This guy is the source, he broke the Metallica news too

I had said Van Halen couldn't be ruled out. They said on nme other day they were recording a new album.

It's big Van Halen, Metallica, Black Sabbath but does nothing for me.

The under card will surely be weaker after this. But its a huge pull and all out. Fairplay to Download though, They told nme they had new material coming other day, that made me think. He may well have been making out to be angy at that fake leak of dates but laughing at the same time.

You almost know then Soni will end up with KISS, Sound Garden, Blink now though.

I reckon Metallica is the replacement possibly for Green Day?

Who knows, Andy only had 2 booked up a short while ago is what he put on twitter, or could he be faking.

Maybe VH DID pull out but AC has done a terrific selling job on them like he did AC\DC I just hope it doesn't mean two stages, half a days acts and them not on any merch.

The undercard won't suffer, he can only book who is doing the festival circuit at the time, these bands come over from the States and rely on doing all these fests to make the money, just coming over and doing one isn't worth it. So it all depends on who Rock AM Ring, Nova Rock, Greenfield all want to splash the cash on and who wants to tour in June. Cus usually bands do June or July or August or a bit of crossover but never June-August fests.

UK acts are different they're easy because they're based here so they can play the range of fests across the three months, but to tour across Europe for three months is very expensive, especially for US artists take Disturbed pulling out last year of the fests after Download cus they couldn't string enough dates together to stay on the European fest circuit so, a band may play an additional festival for lower money to stay on the circuit for future dates. AND don't forget the pull of playing under Van Halen or Black Sabbath, it would be an honour for a lot of bands remember most acts are die hard fans of rock and would take a lower pay to be able to play on the bill, plus its exposure as well to a new fanbase. Lots of reasons just because the headliners are strong doesn't mean the undercard HAS to be weak.

This doesn't mean its defo Van Halen, just passing the info along

If it is Van Halen I may not bother with Download this year. Metallica I'v seen too many times to care, Sabbath I'd like to see but seen them before and Van Halen I couldn't give a shit about. If they had got Rammstein instead of Van Halen it would be a very different matter.
