Just made a late decision to give Wickerman a miss and try Kendal Calling. Will be coming down from Edinburgh on the Thursday on the train and looking for the most relaxing time possible - so looking for tips. Apologies if answered already.

Obviously the Emperor fields are sold out but how quiet is the main Quiet field and/or can you pitch in the family field without a family!

Anyone have a site map - mainly for finding the quietest field and also for taxi drop off on Thursday?

How good is the grub - is there a good range or is it mainly burger vans.

Are there definitely no shower option/upgrade for the standard fields?

Is the Lodge sold out?

edit - just managed to get an Emperors Field ticket (cost me £10 more but I think its probably worth it seeing how much I like my comforts)

Might be worth putting a message on the Kendal FB page if you're after an Emperors...there were quite a few on sale last year.

Very good range of food for such a small festival.

They're normally direct you when you enter if you ask to be pointed in the direction of the quite field, its to the left as you come in.

The taxi dropped us off right at the entrance when you got one last year.

Its a great weekend!

First time for us at Kendal this year - James are the main draw but really good range of acts already. Craig Charles slotted in somewhere would just nail it. I gather from previous posts hes a bit of a regular - brilliant at Wickerman last year. Saw Ocean Colour Scene doing the acoustic set before James last weekend at the Big Stooshie. Great sing along which would benefit any festival in an early evening slot this summer I`d reckon.

Anywayz..were heading down after Wickerman and are bringing the weans. Anyone advise me what the situation is with family camping ? Is there the Emperors Field AND quiet camping OR is it pot luck if you don`t buy a ticket for Emperors ? Noise doesnt bother me much but its normally beneficial if the kids have other young uns to run about with while us auld yins get on with the cider/sun business !

Just watched Spector in Brighton and I'm not that impressed tbh... They were upstaged by Citizens! who played a great set before them which made Spector seem really pedestrian in comparison. There was a bit too much conviction of his own coolness from the front man for my liking, pointless rambling between songs and no sense of vitality in their performance. Might be giving them a miss at KC. Saw Pete Philly this afternoon... Now that was a magic moment and tomorrow it's Aiden Grimshaw!

Oh and Aiden Grimshaw was blinding... The kid can really sing and whoever is writing the dirty, grimy songs he's singing is talented indeed. A lot of the crowd were openly dubious and clearly waiting for We Are Scientists but the place quickly warmed to the boy and he got braver with every song. Second song in and the grown men were quietly dancing and the indie chicks swooning. I reckon he's going to do ok.

remember thinking the same the first time i saw the courteeners play the acadamy 2 in newcastle about 5 years ago, loads of rambling to the crowd, well not even specifically to the crowd cos only the front row could hear him.

every time i saw them after that the banter got less and less and the performances tighter. Im sure spectors stage performance will mature with time as they get more experience
