crosswillcastyourshadow
I know... I've been hoping that they'd book metallica for years now. It seems as though they only play every decade or so. It's good to see Andy is thinking out of the box for headliners for once. It was almost beginning to seem like he'd run out of new headliners to book, but he's proved that wrong here. Metallica at Donington??? Who'd have thunk it???? This must be the first of the four horsemen of the apocolypse (see what I did there )
mrtourette
I hardly think Metallica headlining a heavy rock/metal festival is thinking outside of the box, although it's pretty much as close to a universally popular choice as you could get. t8yman
What a crappy booking. Metallica have played at least one of the major UK festivals just about every year for the last 7 years or so. I fucking hate the black album too, hope the other 2 headliners are a bit more inspiring. It will sell massively, and Metallica playing the black album in full is a big deal. Just not for me I'm afraid. I know it makes me sound like a right miserable old c**t, but I genuinely could not stand and watch that set. I know I am in a very very small minority. gazza_20
I'm with you boys and have seen Metallica 5 times in the past 5 years so I cannnot say I'm too bothered about seeing them again but we cannot deny that Metallica and Sabbath will sell a sh1t load of tickets, and have much more appeal than Linkin Park and Def Leppard. I will wait and see who the 3rd headliner is, if its Rammstein with a decent line up then I will get involved. Where does this leave Sonisphere? I guess they will go for rock bands like Blink 182, Green Day, Soundgarden or Foo Fighters?
thedudeman
I reckon it might leave them with QOTSA Sound Garden Green Day (Big chuck of money there to get them to do it, if not Blink)
mrtourette
I think Soundgarden and Blink are a good shout.
jump
I can see Blink & Soundgarden but I'll be surprised if they don't have a big attraction or a more metal headliner.
crosswillcastyourshadow
The first time I saw them they were on the second stage at download, the second, they played without Lars, The third, they played master of puppets in it's entirety, the forth, they played Wembley stadium with shit sound and in broad daylight, the fifth, they played at leeds, debuting Death Magnetic. The fact that I've missed them at four of their festival appearances over the past ten years but still managed to see them five times suggests that they are over doing it a bit to me. They're great fun, don't get me wrong, but the only year in the past ten they've had a break from european festivals was 2005.... give it a rest metallica.
