Hugh Grant on the Leveson Inquiry

I see what you are saying, but surely there has to be a line drawn somewhere. Just cause an actor seeks publicity does this really mean we are allowed to snoop on them at any time.

i understand that the public love some gossip, it's just I don't see the point.

It's where the line is drawn. Steve Coogan is on the inquiry as well, I really don't care he has a few cheeky lines of weekend why is that in the public interest, just cause he likes to publicise himself for his carreer

I like his sentiments but:

"This country has a reputation for standing up to bullies"

Don't make me laugh. We're currently following the biggest bully on the planet around the playground, standing behind them cheering them on and joining in as they beat up all the smaller kids just so we can take what they have.

And the rest of recorded history has us down as being the biggest bullies on the fucking planet.

As a nation we've always been snivelling pieces of shit.

the only footballers who get exposed are those flash ones who court publicity. John terry, beckham etc. You dont see paul scholes in the sunday papers as he shuns that side of fame.

They are all aware of the risks of playing with the press and they are fabulously rich becuase of it. The downside is when they get caught doing something naughty the spoilt brats dont like it one bit.

For me its a total failure of logic that just because someone uses the media to earn some sort of a living then they to accept that the media can go into their personal live whenever they want and destroy and hurt them and everything around them.

Its just called being a c**t that...

This is not to say that I have a real problem with the papers talking about someone like Terry, England Captain role model (very much public interest)... Personally thought the RG stuff had nothing to do with the "public interest.

What amazes most is people want to read this tripe. They must have very little going on in their own lives.

Just shooting the breeze

I rarely see the glossy magazines or tabloids so I may have missed all this people in there all the time who are fair game (my Jordan but that's just hard to miss). so I don't know what they do to have their phones hacked and lifes gone through

just try to seeking clarification on where the line is drawn.

I'm also sure Scoles would have had his picture in the paper if there was a photo of him snorting coke of a rent boys ass. Not sure the paper would hold back at all (and you maybe being naive to believe otherwise)

And also when did common sense come into play when you talk about tabloid press

I don't really know what you mean either...

I don't remember Terry, RG and many others using the media in a way that shocked me or I thought was wrong.

That's because you aren't aware of how they're using it.

You remember that story that dropped Terry deeply in the shit, about him shagging his team-mate's missus? He gave them that story.

So why did he give the papers a hugely damaging story? To keep out of the papers an even more damaging story. The details are out there if you care to find them.

The naivety is yours.

If the papers had a story like that they might run it, or they might do a deal with the sleb involved to get another story.

Which way they'd go depends on a huge number of things, which have got little to do with reporting the truth of what they might know.
