beau1
Is it definite that if they played that they would be MS headliners? Couldn't they sub or second stage headline?
Vieuphoria
plus they like to push their luck as far as it'll go.... They'll play for hours and hours if they can get away with it.

beau1
I remember seeing them at Wembley Arena and they did something ridiculous like a 12 song encore till 12.30 and I missed the last tube home. THE c**tS!
eFestivals
(as I said, the demand for the RAH gig was in excess of 30,000). was it really? How do you or anyone else know that for certain? Here's betting that's as accurate as Glasto believing that they had demand in excess of 1/2M. gluther
Strictly Reading and Leeds seem to think The Cure might headline the NME tent. Would they take that?

JWC126
I think it's an odd one if this is true. There's no doubting that they're a massively influential band, with a big history and a very devoted following, but they're not a nostalgia act like Guns N Roses. I can understand giving a headline slot to a smaller band if it's one like Arcade Fire and even with My Chemical Romance because you're giving them a step up and trying to get a one-up on the competition by claiming you're the festival who gives up and coming bands their big shot. But with The Cure, I don't think they're a massive band, they just have a very devoted following, they're like a "Diet Pixies", and they had to get the reunion buzz to give them headliner status and even then there wasn't a massive crowd. By giving them a headline slot, you're just kinda dipping below the normal standard to try and keep the headliner list fresh when there are quite a few other better options. Yellow_Fellow
We couldn't possibly tell, I personally think they're so much better suited to play it. As this forum has shown, their audience is, in the demographic's view, a niche. But a hell of a hardcore niche.. an NME headlining slot is perfect for them. Yellow_Fellow
You could read the post I actually made. The Cure are not majorly recognised as suitable Main Stage headliners in Reading/Leeds' demographic. They have a smaller but very active niche, and that's just right to headline the NME stage. Yellow_Fellow
No, it would be perfect for me for them not to be there - I am not a fan. I obviously haven't read the 5 prior pages on this forum which is again, a niche of the R/L audience.. sigh. Faith No More headlined loads of EU fests in 2009 but NME headlined here, similar story. Bit different because UK back to UK but yeah whatever. Keep on the pedantry!
RichieParf
They're headlining in Europe because they have more fans in Europe. R&L would be a very strange one to book them for, whatever fan base they have I assume we'd agree they're a hell of a lot older than the usual R&L goer. I don't think it would be a completely illogical booking, but it would certainly be a suprising one. It's hardly unprecedented for a band to headline in countries where they're popular and where the demographic suits them, and then to play lower where that isn't the case. Muse were still subbing US festivals long after they were headlining them over here.

thetime
Booking the cure wouldnt be that out of the ordinary, when you think maiden the pixies have headlined last 10 years. Edited February 5, 2012 by thetime
jonodillieono
If it didn't have two of the biggest bands R&L could book at the moment it be be dodgy but one sells out the capacity of both sites on its own within a few hours comfortable. gazza_20
Muse sold out Wembley Stadium 2 times comfortably in 2010. Therefore the fest should of sold out instantly no problems last year.......
