Bisque
So efestivals thinks Blue will definitely play London this summer, I guess that rules them out for R+L.

thesecretingredientiscrime
Blue are reforming? Even so I doubt that they'd play R&L.
mrtourette
I can't believe that I missed that one.
jump
Shame on you, your country needed you! Blue could of used the whole of the UK's support when they competed in the Eurovision Song Contest last year.
dip
Imagine the whole crowd singing 'All Rise'. Now THAT's how you close a festival

Bisque
Shit, I meant Blur. I can't believe I wrote Blue. Blue would be sick though.
mrtourette
Anyway Graham Coxon's announced a solo tour for April, don't know if that means anything. Edited January 11, 2012 by mrtourette

purplehaze81
If they're playing London in July then I doubt that's significant. I guess it comes down to whether or not you'd class the London gig as a festival. I'm not sure that it would be classed as a festival, so Blur could still be Festival ExclusivesTM. eFestivals
If they're playing London in July then I doubt that's significant. it definitely would be to Melvin. He might decide to go with them anyway of course, but that fact would make him think twice. Getting exclusives of some sort if he can is top of his mind when considering headliners. purplehaze81
But Pulp were not in any way an exclusive last year (except for the pathetic "north of England" pap).
dip
but you had three other headliners last year
eFestivals
But Pulp were not in any way an exclusive last year (except for the pathetic "north of England" pap). they were co-headliners, they're a much smaller band (so could be co-headliners), and Strokes had the exclusivity part. Everything I hear from both public and private sources tells me that exclusivity in some form is top of Melvin's wants in a headliner; the fact that he might not always get it is something different to that. Melvin can only book suitable headlining bands that are available, and he doesn't have total control on what other shows a band might do no matter how much cash he waves at them - which means he might have to move from his want of exclusivity to get what he thinks are the best possible headline acts. purplehaze81
When was the last time one of the headliners wasn't exclusive in some form or another? Or does Melvin always try and claim he has an exclusive, even if it's glaringly obvious that he doesn't? purplehaze81
In that case I think he could still go with Blur as a 'festival exclusive' as Live in London wouldn't technically be a festival, and would they even be headlining that? MCR did the Radio One Big Weekend last year, yet they were still apparently an 'exclusive headliner' at R+L.

If they did play both I'd be surprised if Melvin tried to claim any exclusivity for them. MCR did the Radio One Big Weekend last year, yet they were still apparently an 'exclusive headliner' at R+L. R1 Big Weekend is a free event, and as far as I'm aware (tho I could be wrong) none or few of the acts play full sets ... but whatever, it's something that can pretty much be ignored in regard to this. zahidf
Its clearly because Reading is such a horrible place to watch bands full of violent little oiks, that the only reason anyone would want to go to watch a band play the festival is if there was no other choice in England. If you can only afford one Blur gig this year, and the choices were London or Reading ( With reading being a lot pricier day ticket wise) the majority of people would go for London

zahidf
Eh, if it's a big Wembley Staduim show I'd rather just go to a fest and see whatever band it is instead.
