Latest press release from The Green Gathering! :)

The Green Gathering is a friendly 4-day camping event, August 2nd - 5th, to be held again at picturesque Piercefield Park, Chepstow, Monmouthshire. TGG continues a twenty-year tradition of Green Gathering events and is now working with Transition communities.

The Gathering will offer an alternative to the Olympic dream (participants will be able to take part in egg and spoon, three-legged and sack races – and, of course, lengthy dance-athons).

Tickets this year will work on an escalator basis, with earlybird tickets bought in December costing just £65. The price will rise £5 per month from January (£70) until July (£100). Under tens go free. www.greengathering2012.co.uk

This event has national and world recognition as a pioneer of ‘Green‘ festivals and ‘greening’ the event industry. It remains innovative in its comprehensive use of renewable energy. In 2012 we will be linking with local community initiatives, Transition groups and local providers in order to minimize our carbon footprint even further.

The Green Gathering 2012 mission statement:

To gather environmental, holistic and sustainability practitioners together and weave the disparate strands of the Green and Transition movements into a festival of discussion, exhibition, presentation and performance. Green Gathering 2012 will promote and showcase awareness and demonstration of sustainable lifestyles through use of renewable energy, discussion of environmental issues and interactive workshops. Entertainment will be an eclectic mix of performance, art, music and innovation - all originating from an environmentalist and green perspective.

Simon Fairlie, is confirmed to speak at the Green Gathering 2-5th August 2012.

Simon is editor of the brilliant Land magazine /www.thelandmagazine.org.uk/ . He walks the talk at Monkton Wyld community in Dorset, keeping cows and producing a fine cheddar cheese, whilst offering planning expert advice on Low Impact Development, - access to the land and how to live cheaply with more self sufficiency.

The talk will include how new ruralists can have an input to the Occupy movement. This is a chance to hear one of the foremost thinkers on land matters in the UK. Not to be missed.

Green Gathering is back on festi circuit. We have just signed a three year contract with the site overlooking the Severn Estuary and Bridge in Chepstow. This will allow us to put down roots and plan for the long term.

If anyone still has a ticket from the cancelled Big Green Gathering 2009 we will honour it in 2012.

We are booking bands and speakers, as well as Simon Fairlie we are well pleased to welcome Nafeez Mossadeq Ahmed who will be showing his film 'The Crisis of Civilisation' and talking on the subject. Nafeez is a fascinating academic looking at the nexus of peak oil, climate change, war on terror and economic collapse. Big green brain food. Forewarned is forearmed. Skill up for powerdown !
