Thought Id start a thread on this

we know

- The next announcement of bands will be Monday 16th January

- It will contain at least 12 acts being announced

- Andy has also said before it will contain at least one main stage sub, but has since said that they may not announce where any of the acts are playing in regards to slot or stage as they may change around the line up along the way.

- Andy has mentioned about the chance of the announcement getting leaked, and kinda gave the impression they're almost expecting it to happen

- At the moment he has around 20% of the overall line up booked

Then they said it wont be today

Then they said the line up this year is incredible.

The only way fests can do things is to claim that each year's lineup is the best ever, so that's what every festival does.

It's not that ridiculous, they're subbing at Rock am Ring the weekend before download.

I'm not sure how SoundGarden have become a headline act. They never struck me as a band that played anything other than academy venues. Certainly no where near as big as Pearl Jam or Pumpkins, or someone like that.

But then I suppose the same thing happened to FNM. Largely played academy venues > Split > Return to partial headline status.

Did soundgarden play arena shows over here? I know FNM did during the Angledust tour.

I just assumed they would be welcomed as a headliner, but to be honest, AIC have probably achieved more since SG's peak, and they usually command a late afternoon slot.

Personally, AIC is my favourite of all the bands from that era and I'd have them headline with pearl jam support. Thats why I don't book gigs.

Soundgarden subbing is a possibility. In my eyes they are a headliner, but the best bands are not necessarily the most popular bands! They could be "Very Special Guests" like Judas Priest were under Kiss in 2008.

Agreed. I think while they could headline, they could also be a strong sub.

It's definitely the reunion factor that's propelled Soundgarden up the bill. Worth considering that unlike FNM, Chris Cornell has never stopped playing Soundgarden songs when he's done his solo appearances. If you're a casual fan & you've caught Cornell solo or with Audioslave you will have had the chance to hear Black Hole Sun, Spoonman, Rusty Cage etc whereas (I think, happy to be proven wrong) Mike Patton didn't play FNM songs when he was doing his solo stuff.

My main concern with Soundgarden is that they've held off playing Europe until they had the new album in the can. There's nothing most people want to hear less at a festival from a reformed band than 'this is another new one' at the expense of a 'hit'.

True but would you rather hear a new song rather than say 'Jesus Christ Pose'?

I'd rather hear the songs that made me like the band in the 1st place after that when I've seen them a few times I want to hear them play new songs or just shake up the set list a bit.
