FNM's Reading performance was only half full.

Yeah that was embarrassing, but at the same time one of the best performances of the weekend. I don't think Soundgarden would suffer the same fate as their name/profile has probably aged better due to the PJ/grunge/Audioslave connection and I think they had more longevity (their light didn't shine as bright but it stayed illuminated for longer) first time around.

Thats what I thought about the fact fnms set wasn't that full at reading. 1. It attracts a young crowd and 2. It largely attracts an indie crowd. And FNM and more Kerrang! than NME.

I saw FNM at the corn exchange edinburgh after download and it's the best gig I've ever been to.

Their performance at Download was one of the best headline sets ive ever seen.

But AIC have lost their traditional singer, which is a fairly big factor (although personally I think William Duvall has done really well).

staley will never be bettered IMHO, but I cant imagine anyone doing a better job than duvall

I agree with you pal, AIC aren't the same without Layne Staley although would be good to see them on same bill as SG.

Jerry Cantrell contibuted just as much to their unique sound as Staley did and as well as Duvall has done it's Cantrell that continues to produce their sound.

I've never seen the R1 tent that full. Worrying the busiest I've seen it was MCR. I was waiting for Cooper Temple Clause to come on..... honest.

But even with headliners. It not been packed.

It was the same at Leeds, but that was just down to them clashing with the most popular live band at that time in the UK, Kings of Leon who attracted the biggest headline crowd my friend has seen in the 15 years of going to Leeds.

If FNM had been up against someone like Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Razorlight etc who attracted small crowds then tent would have no doubt been full as it was for Lostprophets, Pendulum and Ash who played the NME tent against them.

Soundgarden are playing in Paris at the end of May, I think they maybe announced next week and AC was hyping them up by saying they only headline festivals?

Yeah this has been discussed in length, they have a whole Europen tour (currently) ending the day before Download starts.

I have never been a big fan of FNM,AIC, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam etc, i think it must have been a decade that passed me by, while i was still stuck in the 80's
