The Dirty Independence Question

Recommended Posts

This blind loyalty is really peculiar.

Indeed it is sir. Just been listening to the Waterboys as they are headlining Wickerman up my way and got an afternoon Pyramid slot I see. Perhaps we could have a Dirty Indy Question Glastonbury meet :) . We can stand to attention and sing along together of an afternoon in the sunshine, great tune.

In Scotland we are looking up at yellow skies but still we hear the Empire song. Seems more appropriate than ever.

Man looks up on a yellow sky

And the rain turns to rust in his eye

Rumors of his health are lies

Old England is dying

His clothes are a dirty shade of blue

And his ancient shoes worn through

He steals from me and he lies to you

Old England is dying

Still he sings an empire song

Still he keeps his navy strong

And he sticks his flag where it ill belongs

Old England is dying

The SNP clearly campaigned against further cuts in UK spending.

while advocating the biggest possible cut in UK spending, and all of the bad effects that will have onto Scotland.

It would be bizarre if they didn't oppose these cuts & you would be the first to call them out for it. I really don't see what you fail to get about that. :bye:

It's bizarre that they do oppose these cuts.

They advocate Scotland self-financing which they know cannot be done without massive cuts.

The SNP call their own policies "suicide", remember?

Most bizarre at all is how you and others are daft enough to buy into their duplicitous bollocks while pretending it's something different to what they've explicitly put in their manifesto.

almost 30 years on and still dying. That's certainly a slow death.

Meanwhile, the snp are offering scotland a very quick suicide. Oh wait, they havent got the bottle to pull the trigger have they.

Balls to the waterboys anyway, the cool kids will be at sinkane on west holts.

This the heart of it.

Does Scotland want to be self-funding, or not?

If you're an indy supporter then the answer is yes - but you have to accept the full consequences of what that means, which is far bigger cuts than the tories will give you. Any other view is simply a wild fantasy, better known as bullshit.

Feel free to hope that an indy Scotland can be turned around to get back to the parity of lifesyle with rUK that it enjoys now, but don't try to bullshit your countrymen that it's a certainty because it's not.

After all, if getting rich was as easy as the snippers claim those snippers would already be millionaires. So why aren't they?

As far as I'm aware the only snippers who've become millionaires are the ones picking up expenses from Westminster! ... yep, the snipper MPs have their noses in the trough as deeply as anyone else - more deeply than Labour, and more deeply than tthe LibDems, as the expenses scandal brought to light!

LJS, just a quick check for me please. Do you accept the premise that if the Scotland were independent that there would be the need for some big cuts to public expenditure? As if not, then they whole arguement is around that, not the one Neil is waging (yes, it hangs on that, but is several steps down the line).

no because everyone in scotland is very happy to see their taxes rise substantially to pay for the shortfall.

didnt you know? it's a socialist utopia north of the border.

True. I'm glad you've finally wised up.

Scottish indy will require much greater cuts in Scotland than the tories will give you.

Advocate indy if you like, but don't pretend your countrymen are daft enough to fall for the SNP's bullshit by YOU bullshitting them in the same way.

Care to provide a source for this repeated but unsubstantiated claim?

You can google and find it yourself.

As the expenses scandal exposed, proportionally only the tories were more on the fiddle than the SNP.

Have you googled it yet?

As you nationalists share so much perhaps you can use the Farage excuse, that it's Ok to do because the SNP are repatriating of that money...? :P

Yup, googled it & frankly there is lots of conflicting info out there & nothing I could find to back up your assertions. I'm sure i've just not looked in the right places & you'll be glad to help me out.

I`m never sure quite who snippers are ( I`m serious ). If you mean anyone who has ever voted for the SNP then are you predicting that they are the only millionaires in Scotland ?

Or....are snippers SNP MP`s of which we used to have 6 but now loads as around half of Scotland voted them in ?

If it`s that later I don`t know how many of them are millionaires but I`d guess not that many.

On your expenses point ( that you have made previously ) is the clue in your 2nd post that contains the subtle backtrack ( highlighted ). Are we going to play a game of smoke and mirrors when you will claim that if the comfy party had 1 mp and he shamelessly over claimed by 1pence ( once ) then he would be worse than the Tories, Labour, Libs etc ?

Also, can you quote one post from anyone on the YES side on here who said that Scotland would be on easy street to great riches or anything even remotely along these lines. Anything......just one post.

well, gotta say, I'm having trouble finding it - tho it was only a snippet of text within a bigger piece which gave the proportionality by party. I'm not going to be googling endlessly to find it.

What I did find is the SNP getting a 100% hit rate in the initial Telegraph revelations, tho not everyone in that initial list ended up being censured.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/mps-expenses/5297606/MPs-expenses-Full-list-of-MPs-investigated-by-the-Telegraph.html

But anyway, your source for refuting it is...? Just because it's news to you doesn't make it a lie. ;)

Genuine attempt to move us forward :)

There is loads of data on alot of spreadsheets. I have picked the 1st one that comes up on the BBC. I have sorted the data by party in alphabetical order. This makes the SNP come out at the bottom but this is only because of the S in SNP. I have not amended the info only sorted it. The rest show a similar picture as you would reasonably imagine. Some SNP MP`s have wrongly claimed expenses. Many other spreadsheets from many other sites are available but hopefully this can take us to the punchline :)

Full list of MPs' expenses repayments

Sir Thomas Legg's commission has ruled on the amount that MPs must repay from their second home expenses claims.

Details have also been published of the appeals against Sir Thomas' decisions and which of them have been successful.

By clicking on the column headings below, the table may be sorted by name, constituency, party, the amount to be repaid, the amount by which the repayment was reduced on appeal or the amount still outstanding.

All figures are those released on 4 February 2010. Any amounts outstanding may have been paid back since then.

Sir Thomas did not consider any issues being looked into by the Standards Commissioner or the police, so they are not listed below.
