I was pretty ambivalent about Queen playing Sonisphere, but having read such bigotted and ill-informed views i am now rooting for them 100%.

Sonisphere is a really friendly and enjoyable event and needs to promote accessibility and tolerance. The last thing it needs is for the crowd simply being 'a load of younger people all going crazy and having a mental time' - if that's what you want then go to R&L!

Queen in themselves will not be a problem as long as the rest of the bill has a strong rock/punk/metal contingent. If you are so pissed off with this potential booking then go elsewhere, but don't clog forums with your views on the subject

Regardless of what has happend in previous years, regardless of people not buying tickets because they're outraged or because they just don't care enough to get one or because they've decided they prefer download. Queen (who are most def a rock band) will likely attract more people then they will put off and Isn't that what any festival promoter wants?

Whether they're suitable band to headline Sonisphere is mainly down to personal opinion and if they nail a couple of other decent headliners draws on the other days then the festival will do just fine.

Are they saying the PR was wrong then since it was pulled?

if they're really working from a press release that went out and then was pulled they could only be a weekly (or greater timescale) publication that has a fair lead time between going to press and being published.

It's certainly the case that no press release has gone out to online outlets or the daily nationals.

So my conclusion is that all they've tweeted is bollocks.

you missed my point completely. do you go to soni/download because its an alternative music festival (and the "alternative music crowd" that goes with it), or because its a festival. I'm in the former camp. if you are in the latter, then my point doesn't really apply to you. If you are in the former, then you should be disappointed at what having a headliner like Queen and xfactor boy will do to a festival you love.

Re: the Green light thing, I reckon they were gonna announce them alongside the UK (and probably france) on wednesday, but the announcement was pulled. The Soni Finland facebook page said more info on Friday though, so I think they may have delayed those 2 to try and sort out whatever caused the delay, and if they couldn't sort it by friday, they'll just announce those anyways to get things started. Tickets were meant to go on sale next monday for Sonisphere - according to Big Green Coach who are an official ticketseller - but I doubt that'll happen now unless they manage to sort it by tomorrow.

As for Soni Finland, the more info could just be the venue and dates I guess, but their twitter page after tuesday began following Metallica, Gojira, Amorphis, Machine Head and Ghost. Metallica also said they have more Euro dates TBA at the end of this week after announcing some on the 23rd. So I expect all of those to be announced for Soni Finland and something similar for Poland too.
