WS_Jack_III
Can't believe there is nothing anywhere on this forum about Jack's solo album "blunderbuss" out April 23rd. Listen to the first single "love interruption" on his website jackwhiteiii.com He has stated that this single is not how the whole album sounds. I guess he is going for different styles throughout the album. Time will tell. Also he will be extensively touring this album around the world!!!!! I am one happy Jack White fan right now! Ed209
why can't you believe it? Unlike you, not everyone blows their load at at the mention of his name. If we made a new thread for every album that is ever released it would be kinda shit. And its not even out for 3 months, ffs! Saying that, I watched a docu on VH1Classic at the weekend called "This might get loud" with White, Jimmy Page and Edge. They were just hanging out with each other talking about influences, important moments in their careers and jamming together. There was some pretty cool stuff in there. Its definitely worth a watch, I really enjoyed it. While Edge's memoires were very interesting, he was struggling to keep up in the jams. Especially "in my time of dying" (Kick ass riffage!). Page (obviously) and White where all over that shit. Edge just looked a bit bewildered and out of his league, so he did what he knows best, on with the reverb and echo and noises, while Page and white rocked the shit out of it I'm not saying Edge isn't a good guitarist, but he's hardly in Page and White's league. WS_Jack_III
Jack's a squillion times more interesting (to me... ) than a ton of acts that people froth at the mouth over when there's an impending release having said that, the first track isn't that great

WS_Jack_III
Well the album is fantastic, such a mix of all the different styles that Jack White has played over the years. I also got to see him live at the HMV forum last Monday and couldn't stop smiling, he played a mix of White Stripes songs, Raconteur songs and one Dead Weather song. The new stuff was great live also. He played with his female band The Peacocks.
The Nal
Ive listened to it. I like it but cant imagine too many repeat listens. Much like The Raconteurs, a good blues jam band with filthy sounding guitars. He tends to get slightly better reviews and admiration this side of the water as we're not as used to blues as the Americans are so its a little more of a novelty to us. I'm always equally amazed and saddened that big Jack White, Black Keys fans etc aren't more knowledgeable about blues in general. Surely a love for these guys would make a fan want to dig deeper? Theres so much blues music out there of a much higher standard. And there has been on record since the early 20s. White, Black Keys are really tributes in comparison. Think this guy is J Whites main squeeze. Son House!! Edited May 1, 2012 by The Nal
Guest Flip
Think if you reinvent yourself too many times people get bored with having to rediscover or reinterpret you all the time.. Very cool chap tho..

The Nal
one of the things Jack has in his favour is that he's still alive. and with all the will in the world, and as much as I like the blues (probably not quite as much as yourself), an hour and a half of it, can get a little errrmmm... repetitive..? WS_Jack_III
It is nice to see some discussion nal For the record I started digging back through old blues that inspired Jack and Black Keys. I have some Leadbelly, John Lee Hooker, son house and blind willy mctell. You say you don't think blunderbuss will get many repeate plays but I have to say I feel it improved on repeate listens. I know I'm a mega Jack White nut and you'll all think I'd like anything he does but initially I wasn't so. Impressed with certain tracks on Blunderbuss. It reminded me when I first heard The White Stripes Get Behind Me Satan. I was a little disappointed in the heavy use of piano but after repeate listens I began enjoying the lyrical content. The whole death of a romance that Jack White wrote about on that record resurfaces on Blunderbuss too.
windy_miller
Blunderbus left me slightly underwhelmed when I listened to to it yesterday. And the first track is downright awful.
Chiefski
Fairly solid album, took a few listens to really get into it, but thats standard for alot of his stuff imo, as much as I loved Meg as well, the two backing bands he has with him are really bringing something different to his old stuff too
rexclark
Just saw the new Jack White video on MTV. I must admit I became quite bored with his musical output since White Blood Cells but I have to admit his solo stuff sounds pretty good. LondonTom
Saw him twice the other weekend, once at the Hammersmith Apollo gig and then at hackney weekend so got to see both the girl and boy band. Brilliant each time The Blunderbus tracks are even better live

The Nal
His latest track is on constant repeat on the radio and is actually starting to grow on me. Maybe I should give the album a second chance too? I may have to skip the first track though.

jump
it's difficult to get to, the sound is shit, and it's hard to get a half decent view I'm not too fussy about gigs, but the basic requirements are a reasonable expectation Edited August 21, 2012 by jump
